I don't see myself starting a relationship with a tractor that doesn't have a zero-hour engine. I'm building 2 5.9's and I really like that engine. Got the setup now to do more so I probably will do more, that's all. It's a little less interesting when you have to 'learn' a different engine.



I look at some older ones like say a Ford 9 even with a fairly large engine and FWD and could still build a cabin on it .....total 8 feet high or less. Don't hold me to these numbers, I'm only trying to illustrate a point. I can't build a shed for my Cat-426 because it's so darn high. I can see the need for huge clearance ujder row-crop tractors but GP?

I don't think you'll find any tractors that make 5.9 level power that will be under 8 feet with cab. NH TN-D series are the lowest I can think of, 4 cyl and 60 odd PTO HP. I'd go with a 5130 and enjoy the factory 5.9, nice cab and shuttle transmission.

That Case-5130 seems like a good candidate, might just be the lightest one with a Cummins 5.9. I'm not familiar with the make at all so there's gonna be a lot of reading-up to do.

So what happen with the CAT motor in the TLB?

Starting with a 4 cylinder machine and dropping an I-6 in it will present significantly more challenges than putting your 5.9 in a 6 cyl. recipient. Also you need to consider whether your recipient has a structural block and whether your 5.9 blocks are structural architecture. I’m thinking they are not.

The IH 5130 is a nice machine with factory cab and air,
if you really want the challenge pick up an Oliver and go for it, with their bathtub frame it works well for modifications, that said they
have about the most confounded transmission shift pattern but with the hydra power or hydra shift they are a good working tractor.

If you notice all those mentioned tractors, the engine has been significantly derated to not overpower the drivetrain, putting a truck motor with 250 hp and 450 lb torque might rip the guts rightout of your small tactor.

Just remember that a small, light tractor with an unengineered, high horsepower engine isn’t going to do any more work than the same tractor with a properly engineered “right sized” engine.

Tractive force is more an optimization of weight and gearing than it is a function of engine crankshaft horsepower and torque.

Small tractors have limited gear train power transmission capability. The Oem tractor engineers are pretty good at optimizing their powertrains. There’s more to making a high power tractor than turning the fuel screw, or, in your case, increasing the engine displacement.

Well from my experience that would be about like frozen butter on a crumbly muffin, not very smoothly.

So what happen with the CAT motor in the TLB?

Not sure if this is for me, i don't have a CAT motor. What i have is a Cat-426 with a Perkins motor. Not much to report there

I might trade it for the right tractor with implements.
