B This past week had so many calls of a violent nature and the trend keeps continuing. The city fire dept. has issued bulletproof vests to the firefighters..... Scary stuff. It's not just here with all the school shootings and other violent crime that you here about. I need to go find some property on top of a mountain!, or at least in the middle of nowhere. :confused2:

I don't think anywhere is immune anymore. In the sleepy little college town where I get my groceries, they've had gang warfare, drug addicts invading the downtown plaza and kid's playgrounds, muggings on the bicycle paths, and even a rolling gun battle between Hmong tribesmen through the parking lot where I do my banking. Out here in the stix, we've had drug murders, arsonists torching thousands of acres and homes, and home invasion type robberies at grower's places (Google's satellite view makes it easy to spot the grows). A big part of it is poor care for the mentally ill, another factor is the loss of good paying "blue collar" jobs (less opportunity and higher demand for drugs), but I also think we hear more about the violence because the media coverage is so pervasive. Regardless of whether there's more violence now than in the past, it pays to maintain situational awareness at all times, even at home, and take whatever steps are necessary to make yourself a less desirable target, no matter where you live.

Yeah, and don't you wish you could take back some of the things you said, or said them differently?

Frankly it's why I won't go into Unfriendly Politics any more. Transportation is trolled up enough.

I agree with you whole-heartedly Sir! So many things in life become blown out of proportion and really are quite trivial, some are not. The secret, IMO, is to take one day at a time, cherish the moments, and do something that has a purpose. Even if that purpose is to protect one's own being. 4 years ago, while at work, I thought I pulled a muscle in my upper back. 6 hours later, I found myself in the back of an ambulance. I never made it to the hospital...massive AMI. My wife watched me die. I came back for whatever reason, only to do it again about 30 minutes later. The Dr. cannot provide a definitive answer as to why this happened or if it will happen again. He stated "your're a walking miracle". It provided a truely different aspect of what life is all about, but each and every one of us is entitled to our own beliefs.

Regardless of whether there's more violence now than in the past, it pays to maintain situational awareness at all times, even at home, and take whatever steps are necessary to make yourself a less desirable target, no matter where you live.

Which is the exact reason why I just bought two game cameras and have another two in the plans for later in the season.

Thanks. If you look close enough you can see pin-stripping from being in the woods for sure...but luckily I have taken care of it pretty well. I like the silver colors as they don't seem to show age/dirt as much.

I was a die-hard Chevy guy until I was given a reason to walk away from them and bought this truck. It has been the best vehicle I have ever owned and even with 155k miles on it, it gives me no reason to think it won't go another 100k. Strong, good truck - highly recommend.

I worked a crisis telephone hotline for a couple of years and +10 years working psychiatric admissions and I saw a surge of "crises" during the Full Moon. During my graduate work I did a 130 year study of the admission rates of the State Psychiatric Hospital where I worked. I "skewed" the statistics by having a 3 day "Full Moon" period and the correlation was > 95%.

My gastroenterologist/endocrinologist reminded me again today how lucky I am as to my functionality. I have the "Daily Double" scheduled for next year He promised to do the endoscopy first this time I saw him in a hardware store once.

^^^^^^^ For many years I struggled with my "White Light Experience and was unable to share it with anyone. My clinical "head" (says anoxia) was in conflict with my feeling "heart" (says spiritual). The docs told me everything shut down in the ER. I was definitely delirious and hallucinating and then something happened there that changed my life. For as verbose as I am, it is still hard for me to put this experience in words. A lot of my personal demons died that day, but I did not. I too do not know why I came back.

There was a time when I was a lieutenant, "watch commander"; i.e. shift supervisor, in the city jail. At that time, my boss was a retired commander from a state penitentiary system. As far as the belief part goes, though, that old adage it only good up to the point where people take it too seriously. Things like Jamestown, The Branch Davidians, the Las Vegas shootings, and the violent acts we were discussing earlier show that these days people are acting on their false beliefs in entirely inappropriate ways. And I'm not even going to go into the obvious political implications of that line of thought, as it would be inappropriate to do so here.:confused2:

Today was sure no day to go outside, rained all day, cold and miserable out.
So I planted another tray of lettuce and another tray of beets. Beets are fun to plant because the seeds are large enough
to pick up by fingers. What's interesting is that it's not a seed, but a seed cluster/pod, so most times more than one seedling comes out and will have to be thinned
or transplanted. Pretty easy to see the difference between the red beets and the golden beets. Pigmentation goes right up the stem.
Last pic is Pak Choy, baby Asian cabbages you cook when the size of a golf ball.

Luckily for us here in nowheresville, MA (pop ~900) crime is still incredibly low. All the action takes place down in the "Valley"- Holyoke and Springfield. According to the LE I've talked to here all those "tough city guys" are not so "tough" when pulled over for some vehicular violation(s), out here in the dark, in the country, with no streetlights, with all the wildlife. They are all too afraid to get out of their vehicles and run.. It can get real isolated out here sometimes.... A mixed blessing.

Pak Choy is one of the nicest cabbages. It goes well with a lot of stuff. I/We have not had good luck growing it. It is really a later season crop around here. It tolerates cold well. It woks great.
