If I recall it was a Saturday, I was on the internet browsing when a banner ran across the screen.

Yes, it was a Saturday. My wife and I were just leaving the nursing home where I had taken my Mother some reading material that she liked.

Good Morning!!!! 52F @ 6:30AM. Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 66F. Winds light and variable.

February is starting off dry and warm out here as another giant Pacific high settles in. By the weekend we'll see highs in the 70s, near 80 down in the valley, and it's supposed to continue for at least the next ten days. Beautiful weather, but not good news for the Sierra snowpack, not good news for the drought, especially since a lot of people are no longer in the habit of conserving water.

Your challenges, Buckeye and Rip, remind us all how fragile we are, and how easy it is for something to snowball. "There but for the grace of God". Hope everyone out there that is suffering finds a sure path to wellness soon, and the rest of us don't lose the one we're on.

I hope you have lots of room for digging around that stump, Don. Last time I got into one, I quickly learned it was planted on top of a boulder, and no amount of digging, sawing, chopping, or :censored: would budge it. Gave up and just cleared the area around it and made a bonfire. Even then, it took two to finish the job, and I still haven't filled in the hole.:confused2:

Now that you have the first dent in your tractor, Drew, the next one will be that much easier to take. The tough ones are when you spend lotsa money replacing plastic trim and turn signal lenses and then bust them up again the next year.:duh:

Spent most of yesterday running between the office and garage, squinting at exploded parts diagrams and making lists of bits to order. A few were frightfully expensive, so that triggered another visit to a German outfit's web site, and another call from the bank telling me that the Visa card had been compromised. Only took them two tries to unfreeze it, but the orders are in and now begins the waiting game. Last one from the domestic supplier only took three business days; the German one will be more like two weeks. Patience, Glasshopper...

That posting count list is a good reminder that everything we do with computers and the Internet today is public knowledge, and like my mother used to say, "Don't do anything you wouldn't want to show up on the front page of the Columbus Dispatch" (the local paper). The fact that it's all on a hard disc somewhere only makes it that much easier to slice and dice, and for the less principled out there, subtly alter for some nefarious purpose. So keep that in mind as you go about your cyber business, and know that Big Brother is more alive and well than ever before.

The fella I've been talking to at one of the parts places likes to interrupt in mid sentence, making for some very frustrating conversations. Our last one resulted in the wrong part being sent, as I was unable to clearly communicate the situation to him. So yesterday I sent him a set of pictures that clearly illustrated the issue, and quickly got word back that the part here had been machined by someone, a suspicion I'd been trying to convey but was unable to because of the interuptions. So my earlier idea of just making it work somehow now seemed to be the only option, as a replacement is no longer available in the parts system, and they apparently aren't that widely available used. Thirty minutes in the shop saw the deed done, and only an expert would be able to detect the misdeed. The original hack really wasn't that bad, just awkward, but now the control piece is properly oriented for the rider's thumb and also at the correct angle. At least now I seem to have their attention, and an email with questions about the next order was answered promptly.:D

A little more fiddling in the shop this morning, going over the parts that came yesterday and perhaps installing some of them, then off to town for another bowl of serial disappointment at the mechanic's, and a few bags of groceries.

Hang in there gang, Friday's comin'!

The low this morning was 27*, the high yesterday was 42*. Today is going to be overcast again with a of high of 38*. The wind was bad yesterday and it going to be the same today.

buckeyefarmer.. Hope they make you feel better and get it right this time.

Eric.. I have three guns that I was loading for a 38-55, 45-70 and 45-110. I used to shoot quite a bit, but haven't done much for the last few years. I was going to a long range shoot when I was living in Utah. The targets started at 200 yds off hand out to 1126 yds off a rest. We would shoot about 60 rounds a day.
I have hunted with the 45-70 and the 45-110. I shot a deer with the 45-70 and a elk and moose with the 45-110.
I seen some were that they had a long range shoot in England, but I think it was for muzzleloaders. If so can you get real black powder there are is it a substitute powder?
Smokeless powder is just a passing fad.

Making the weekly trip to town today. Not much else going on.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

37°F and cloudy this morning, falling through the day to 12° tonight. Looks like after the cold night tonight, we're back to more "normal" winter temps in the 30s and 40s for the next couple of weeks.

I've never played disc golf, Ron, but I am something of a regular golf nut. I am certainly no scratch golfer, but I do love to play. Been getting the itch lately, one that's tough to scratch in winter around here.

An absurdly violent night in St. Louis last night, with 9 people shot at various locations. News talked about an Illinois Lottery official who had to resign over referring to East St. Louis IL as a "sh**hole." Perhaps he missed the mark a little too far east. Statistically, you are several times more likely to be a victim of violent crime in the City of St. Louis than in East St. Louis. Yeah, it's not the nicest city on the planet, but I think they get a bad rap when it comes to violence.

27F and a surprise +2" of powder snow. +36" so far this year snow; a little off from average.

A few potential weather system being modeled 2 potential storms next week with more storms lining up across the Pacific. Where and how they track, timing, where the potential storms' LP's "center" and rain/snow lines set up yet to be determined. Simply put , no one really knows, until 72 hours out and see the system(s) coming.

Watching a loved one suffer in pain and being powerless to do anything but hold their hand and/or a offer a gentle caress, say soothing and comforting statements of love and support, and pray takes its toll. Being a primary care giver for a loved one also takes its toll. One sometimes feels very alone in sickness and in the care taking challenge, but in reality they are not if they are able to share their "stuff." Threads like this one sometimes offer the only support a person receives.

I now appreciate how frail we all are and how short the time we actually spend on this Earth. I appreciate what all you do and have done.

Bird- I hope your wife is now in less pain and/or more manageable pain. Good luck with your doctor's appointment.

My + thoughts, prayers, and wishes for all.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 27° with mostly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 33° with mostly cloudy skies. Another Dr. appointment today. Wife was busy yesterday. She collected a full SUV load of stuff to drop off at Salvation Army. Amazing how much stuff we had collected in motorhome over 12 years. Still more stuff. But it's a start. Also a Costco stop. Hope the bill does not end up as high as others have posted.
Found a new hobby. Maybe. Disc Golf. Some of the video clips are from Fountain Hills, AZ Always wondered what the chain baskets were for.
Drew, hope you tractor repair goes good.
Prayers for those not up to par.
Good Morning All.
We played Frisbee golf on a course like that in Virginia Beach when I was much younger...and then my son took me to play on a course near Virginia Tech a few years ago. He had different specialized size/weight discs to use for teeing off vs. "putting," etc. I used a plain jane black frisbee.

I think that I majored in Frisbee with a minor in partying in college. Frisbee golf was in its infancy then. I do not think my wrists and shoulder would like me taking up Frisbee again.
