Good Morning!!!! 52F @ 6:30AM. Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 66F. Winds light and variable.
February is starting off dry and warm out here as another giant Pacific high settles in. By the weekend we'll see highs in the 70s, near 80 down in the valley, and it's supposed to continue for at least the next ten days. Beautiful weather, but not good news for the Sierra snowpack, not good news for the drought, especially since a lot of people are no longer in the habit of conserving water.
Your challenges, Buckeye and Rip, remind us all how fragile we are, and how easy it is for something to snowball. "There but for the grace of God". Hope everyone out there that is suffering finds a sure path to wellness soon, and the rest of us don't lose the one we're on.
I hope you have lots of room for digging around that stump, Don. Last time I got into one, I quickly learned it was planted on top of a boulder, and no amount of digging, sawing, chopping, or

would budge it. Gave up and just cleared the area around it and made a bonfire. Even then, it took two to finish the job, and I still haven't filled in the hole.:confused2:
Now that you have the first dent in your tractor, Drew, the next one will be that much easier to take. The tough ones are when you spend lotsa money replacing plastic trim and turn signal lenses and then bust them up again the next year.:duh:
Spent most of yesterday running between the office and garage, squinting at exploded parts diagrams and making lists of bits to order. A few were frightfully expensive, so that triggered another visit to a German outfit's web site, and another call from the bank telling me that the Visa card had been compromised. Only took them two tries to unfreeze it, but the orders are in and now begins the waiting game. Last one from the domestic supplier only took three business days; the German one will be more like two weeks. Patience, Glasshopper...
That posting count list is a good reminder that everything we do with computers and the Internet today is public knowledge, and like my mother used to say, "Don't do anything you wouldn't want to show up on the front page of the Columbus Dispatch" (the local paper). The fact that it's all on a hard disc somewhere only makes it that much easier to slice and dice, and for the less principled out there, subtly alter for some nefarious purpose. So keep that in mind as you go about your cyber business, and know that Big Brother is more alive and well than ever before.
The fella I've been talking to at one of the parts places likes to interrupt in mid sentence, making for some very frustrating conversations. Our last one resulted in the wrong part being sent, as I was unable to clearly communicate the situation to him. So yesterday I sent him a set of pictures that clearly illustrated the issue, and quickly got word back that the part here had been machined by someone, a suspicion I'd been trying to convey but was unable to because of the interuptions. So my earlier idea of just making it work somehow now seemed to be the only option, as a replacement is no longer available in the parts system, and they apparently aren't that widely available used. Thirty minutes in the shop saw the deed done, and only an expert would be able to detect the misdeed. The original hack really wasn't that bad, just awkward, but now the control piece is properly oriented for the rider's thumb and also at the correct angle. At least now I seem to have their attention, and an email with questions about the next order was answered promptly.
A little more fiddling in the shop this morning, going over the parts that came yesterday and perhaps installing some of them, then off to town for another bowl of serial disappointment at the mechanic's, and a few bags of groceries.
Hang in there gang, Friday's comin'!
