How many miles on your vehicle before sell or trade?

I just bought my son's 06 F150 XL 2WD standard cab truck. The little 4.2 V6 currently has 130K miles. I figure it will do fine as a daily driver. Hope to get 200K miles out of it. I have traded or sold my last cars at 185K, 225K, and 220K miles. None had engine or transmission failures but did require the typical replacement of a water pump at 150K plus miles and other odd and end repairs. I think one needed an alternator, a couple of window lift motors, ect, nothing major. If you are driving older stuff like I do it is imperative to find a good local mechanic you trust unless you can do the repairs yourself. In my younger years I would not hesitate to tackle some of the things I now just take to my mechanic. He's semi-retired and really good. All brands need maintenance and all need repairs.

Those are great trucks and engines for a daily driver.

I think my 240D has 300K something. Interesting note about a 240D is that it does not have enough power to wear itself out. Even the tires wear a long time. The set that is on it now has 130K and still have some life in them and do not lose air. If I could stop it from leaking oil I might keep it. I dislike leakers.

I think it is because most of that era of Mercedes is what happens when you put a truck power train in a passenger car...

130k on tires is amazing... must be a record?

Mom got 80k on the rear Michelin tires on her VW Rabbit... finally changed them because at 17 years they were getting age cracks...

Miles on vehicle before trading or selling? Depends. One that I hate, early on. Those that I like, usually when the die of body cancer. A good reliable vehicle has a long life living in my garage. A lousy vehicle that I find I am inventing new swear words about, it gets the boot as quick as possible.

The mileage on any vehicle I have ever owned never determined whether I sold or traded it. New engineering and design or as my needs change determines when I sell or trade my present vehicles, which isn't very often.

I've had an '07 Honda Ridgeline for 7 years. Had 49k when I bought it, now about 142k. It does absolutely everything I need, and then some. It's kinda ugly, but it runs great, is roomy & comfortable, and while the bed's a little short at 5', it's so versatile with the factory tie-down cleats, the two-way tailgate, and especially the trunk. Mine always has a chain saw, other miscellaneous tools, sometimes golf clubs, etc., and of course the trunk locks with the doors. I've hauled so much dirt, appliances, kayaks, furniture, mulch, bricks, and so on and so on in this thing. I bet my riding mower's been in there 30 times. Just an awesome vehicle.

I buy in auctions or insurance salvage and run till they rot away my current F150 had 316'000k when I bought it 4 years ago at 4 years old .
