I too did a similar job for Plains Marketing Canada. I was a control center operator for several pipelines in Canada and the US. I could never have lasted for 16 years.

Maybe I received some of the SYN crude?

The last couple years I told my wife "This job is literally killing me a little bit each day". I wanted to finish this year out (contract was up next Feb) but after talking to our wealth manager it looked good to go so I did!

Cat Fever congratulations on retiring;
I did about 20 years in instrumentation and controls from Texas to the Dakotas. That control room is a far sight from rack after rack of Foxboro pneumatic controllers and indicating controlling recorders. It was quite the journey from straight pneumatic to mixed ma analog and I/P's to digital. One of the worst stucks I ever had was when I was staying in Evanston and driving into Coalville Ut. when the frost went out of the new road that spring. Then I came back east and stayed in Instrumentation and calibration ended up for about 13 years calibrating for a pharmaceutical and staying involved in tractors and ag all the time was quite a combination.
Retired now and just help out on my brothers place mostly field work, much nicer, I can chop corn, hay or mow all day without getting tired.
Enjoy

Thanks everyone for your kind replies.

It is a very calm feeling to sit here typing, watching it snow and knowing I can go ride my snowmobile any time I want to. Now I can get the best powder. I just need to get one of my riding buddies to retire. He works what we call the south board at the refinery. I know he is getting close to pulling the plug.

On the tractor side of things it will also be nice to know when it's time to cut the hay, I will cut. No need to work around my work schedule.:D

I know the whole retirement thing has not sunk in yet....but it won't take long.:cool2:

I hope my wife understands I will make the schedule.

In the beginning my wife would ask me each morning what my plan was for the day. Well gee,,, I thought retirement meant I didn't need a plan.... So I'd make up something, "Oh I'm going to brush cut at the farm today". That evening she would ask how the brush cutting went? I'd have to admit that I didn't get around to that..... Finally she understood and quit asking. Now in the evenings she might ask what I did each day, or more likely she'll say "What was your human contact today"? A wonderful retirement day is when I can say none. That freaks her out just a little. She thinks I might be a bit anti-social. I think it's more that I like myself and don't need any more than that thru the day!!!! :D

Very hearty Congratulations Lynn!!!! I'm looking forward to reading of your move adventures later in the year!!!!! :cool2:

there is one disadvantage to being retired (and I've been semi-retired since 94)
When you wake up in the morning................ you're already at work

Yeah but there's a huge tradeoff. There are only Saturdays and Sunday in my week. Six Saturdays. One Sunday. :D

Let me be the 56th to congratulate you on your retirement. Retired in July from 30 years of driving truck with no chargeable accidents (1 non charged) and no moving violations (thank you Lord). I have found that I don't miss the truck at all, but I do miss the people. I hope that you have a happy, healthy and long retirement.
God bless.

Nothing wrong with that. Some of us are very comfortable "in our own skin" And this is coming from a person that has a hobby related to communicating with people. I am comfortable around and interacting with people, but I am also very comfortable being alone. Being alone with my own thoughts, my own ideas and my own priorities. I think a good balance of both is ideal. :)

Thanks Frank.

I can spend hours in the barn puttering around and listening to the radio. My wife calls herself a "Barn Widow". After a few hours she always comes out to see what I'm doing.:)

Best thing I ever did was get an unlisted phone number. I was more than willing to take calls and help out my replacement for a year or two but, it became a never ending ordeal at all hours of the day and night. It took us two tries to get an unlisted number (and reading the phone company the riot act for giving out my first unlisted number).

My blood pressure dropped immediately!

Well stated James. :)
