First day of the rest of my life

Amen. I was a little bitter for a while but I let the anger go. I knew I was honest and they weren't. I felt taken advantage of at times but I'm over it now.

The ones that I thought had no conscience were the ones that burned all their sick leave and then truly got sick and asked for donations of sick leave so they could survive. I call that God Smack. :)

Mama always told me "Do what's right 'cause God don't like Ugly"! Lack of morality and conscience appears rampant these days.

Saw that all too often during my career, I did donate to a couple of folks that I knew did not abuse their sick leave, they just had some real misfortune in their health.
When I retired sick leave could be cashed into a health savings account at 50% of face value. I didn't feel at all bad getting some heath issues fixed before I retired (A couple of partial cornea transplant surgeries) that ate up a lot of sick leave balance. Annual leave was another story, it was cashed out at 100% of face value. The year I retired I hit my anniversary date with the maximum carry over, 240 hrs and didn't use any until I retired. I think I cashed out somewhere around $25k worth of annual leave. About the only bonus that you can get in civil service.

My job does not pay out for unused sick leave. I had 6 months of full pay when I left. Sure would be nice to get something for showing up all the time and not creating OT by calling in sick. I will not even get a pat on the back.:confused3:

Just knowing that you gave an honest days work for a days pay is really all that really matters. I think pride in a job well done is a good thing and sorely lacking these days. Do your best, Feel your best!

My job did pay out for unused time. I had 60 days sick time and 42 days vacation saved up. Only problem with that was they paid it to me in one check which really hurt on the taxes taken out.
Sorry to hear your job doesn't pay out for unused sick time. If my employer had that policy I'd have used up my 60 day sick bank before turning in my notice. There would have been no reason to bank it if I knew they weren't going to pay me for it. I too never took a sick day in 31 years and no pat on the back for me either. After 31 years I was just another number. The 6 guys who did outside properties maintenance that I worked with did take me out to a very nice luncheon but nothing from the upper crust management.
I miss the people I worked with but have no regrets about retiring.

I was to honest, I guess. Never took any sick leave unless I was on deaths door. In 30 years, I loaned more of my time to others than I used for myself. Call me Stupid!

I was in the same "stupid" boat. I think of the guys who called in sick all the time, they got paid to stay home and I showed up all the time. It makes you really think who in fact was stupid. At least we can hold our heads high.

So far the same boat... glad to not have needed it but also see how many simply said they earned it and were not leaving it behind... all the way to the highest levels... made no difference.
