Re: HD F-150 or 3/4 ton truck? Just Factory ordered an F-150 Supercab 4 x 4
We just factory ordered an F-150 Supercab 4 x 4 non HDPP
MSRP on a Supercrew F-150 HDPP similar in equipment was just under $54K
HDPP had a total of only $1,000 in Incentives and Package Discounts.
218 Ford F-15 - Build & Price
MSRP on the Supercab configured as above was just under $51K
This truck has a payload of 2,200 lbs but with Options, and a big fat guy driver vs. the 150 lbs allowed, that actual payload is around 1,800 lbs.
The same goes for towing, as it is rated to tow 11,300 lbs but if it can handle 7,500 to 8,000 lbs I will be satisfied.
The 302A option package bundle is not available on XLT with the HDPP package. Also some stuff not available with the HDPP, and if it is, you order it separately.
Even with X-Plan and the $1,000 incentive, HDPP F-150 best dealer price was over $49K X-Plan was actually not as good as dealers best price.
So to get even close to the features of the XLT SuperCAB, non HDPP in equipment, you are forced up to a Lariat trim with HDPP at $56K MSRP. Even then some stuff is not included.
+$50K for a truck just can't happen.
However the incentives and package discounts on the non HDPP Supercab were almost $7,000 and we got the truck slightly below invoice, not counting incentives & discount which adding those in really dropped the final price.
The dealer also sold Toyota's. Toyota truck get near MSRP, because they are Toyota's.
So we got a nice mid level truck at the price of an XL. Anyone want to take a guess what the contract price was?
Therefore we gave up the idea of a HDPP and will add
RideControl | Air Lift Company - Tow and Haul with Safety and Comfort
We have been told that it will take 2-3 weeks for the truck to get an schedule and VIN from the Ford Order Bank and another 8-12 weeks to build and deliver.
I have been told by several dealers that if you order you get locked into the incentive at time the order is placed with Ford, and if incentives increase between the dime you order and delivery, you get the better incentive.
I suspect 2018 Ford Order Bank will close early spring.
Even though comparatively we got were able to order the F-150 at a great price, I have to remind myself that my dad bought a nice Chevy HD2500 Reg Cab 8,800 GCVW for $8,500 after the business tax write off back in 1981.
I really gave the 2018 F-150 a hard look over.
My conclusion was that Ford really took a lot of weight and some beef out of the truck, so I hope the engineers made the best effort they could, considering Ford is so cost driven and the requirements for fuel mileage, etc.
We looked at late model used, both 1/2 and 3/4 ton. Lots of Dodge Rams, but less Fords, and even fewer Chevy trucks seem to be on the private market. The were all mid $20-low $30K. Leased Low Mile Factory Guaranteed Pre-Owned were even higher.
That so few Chevy trucks were available say to me that Chevy builds a good truck.
Buying a truck is as hard as buying a tractor sometimes!
