Most of the poplar around here years ago was rotary cut on a lathe for veneer used in panel construction for furniture. Not many mills left. When we sold our timber couple years ago the logging company left 10 acres of lowland poplars along the creek bank. Some of those buggers are over 40" across the butt. Guess the market was soft at the time. When I ran cabinetmaking at the high school I used FAS poplar for our projects. Lower cost and easy to work with.

Our snow pack is brutal these days. Just enough crust to almost support you, then it's up to your shins.

I cut 10 trees yesterday and quit. It's just not worth the struggle.

C'mon Spring! :)

if I had a helper like that I would spend more time in the woods that's for sure! nice equipment and very nice helper!!

Hey BrokenTrack,

You had to know you were going to get comments regarding your spokes-model, luckily [for all of us] she falls well toward the upper end of the 10-scale, otherwise hopefully no one would have said diddly-squat.:cool2:

Did she come with the Wallenstein, or was it the saw? ;)

Give her kudos from all of us- she has the model poses down pat- just like the gals on the Price is Right and Let's Make a Deal.

Stay safe!

Yah- my dogs were coming in with cuts on their pads until I stomped out some trails for them in their fenced yard- now they won't step out of them.

I can't wait for that white stuff to leave either.

I was cutting on snowshoes earlier this year, which is slow and really not the safest practice. Lately we've been in a snow globe though, and somebody needs to stop shaking it.

I cant imagine breaking a 9mm cable, was it soling cable or that new core type? The last cable I bought was 5 years ago down Union Farm, used it on 8-10 cord/year plus 20,000 brd ft in logs, they said it was ginuwine 8mm Fransgard cable. All the winch cable I see online is galvanized cable, dont really think thats as strong as pto tractor winch cable.

If Harolds Logging wasn't so far from me I'd check it out, I'll put it on my go to place list though, thanks for the info, to bad they wouldn't sell online.

Oldpath, It looked like regular cable. Guess I don't know the diff.

Here is one of my piles today. You wouldn't know it, but there is about 6 cords of 16' spruce logs in that pile behind the tractor.

I also have a local gas station that carries a pile of logging supplies and for cheap prices too. That is nice.

Definitely sounds like Maine! And only Maine. Lol . :drink:
