Kubota MX5200
Hello everyone. I just jumped on TBN and thought I'd share a post as I have spent many hours reading before my recent tractor upgrade. We moved out to the country from a .25 acre lot to a 60 acre lot that was once an old tree farm. Roughly a 50/50 split between wooded (tree farm and woods) and old pasture/crp land. We have been using a Kubota L245DT (22pto) to maintain the 1/2 mile drive, brush hog, and for a while finish mowing the house area. We finally got a zero turn 2 years ago and that took my mowing from 4 hours to 1.5 so the new tractor won't be used for that. I can't count the times I said to myself that "if this tractor had a loader xyz would be so easy." That particular tractor was also very light for the road work with the box blade and homemade grader/reclaimer that we have made from giant I beams. Too many times to count that tractor went wheels up or got very light. I looked into adding a loader to that and found that the cost of the loader would be more than the value of the tractor and at the end of the day it would have a 600lb lift or something along those lines and still wouldn't have enough PTO to cut the 8' weeds that grow up in the in-cut portions of the fields. Trying to maintain some of the fields was tough with a 5' cutter and not enough power to run more than 1mph.

We ended up getting a used MX5200 hst with about 50 hours with the LA1065 loader, 6' rotary cutter, 74" tiller, forks, bucket, tree/post puller and a WR Long OBP-2 66" grapple. The R4's are loaded with beet juice (800lb). This thing feels like an absolute beast compared to what I've been using. I was comparing the MX line to an L4060 HSTC, but between the added cost for the cab, and only a smaller gain in Hp/PTO I wasn't sure if it was enough of a jump to make an upgrade worth while. I certainly wanted a larger Grand-L (45-50hp) but they were way out of my budget. I can't even tell you what a difference the MX5200 is. I spent an hour and a half last night attacking some of the giant invasive multiflora rose on the property and it ripped it up and out like it wasn't there and I could pile and stack it. I've been using chemicals/salt to kill it, but you still have the thorny mess. I tried once to move it by hand and realized that was dumb. I probably did a weekend's worth of clean-up in that 1.5 hours.

I've never run a loader but got the hang of it quick and using the 3rd function was easy. The hydrostatic transmission seemed to make that job really easy compared to my old gear-driven L245DT. This should make brush hogging out in the old tree farm much easier as well as I can get under things quicker and 47PTO should allow me to use at least a decent travel speed. I try my best to find the right tool for the job and hope that this one keeps paying off. As many people out there with kids, wife, work, life there's only so many hours to get stuff done and hopefully this makes them count. Now to try out the tree/post puller on all the trees that were allowed to get to big. They are right on the edge of brush hog vs. chainsaw removal.

Congratulations, the MX Series is in my opinion a real value leader in Kubotas.

I had an MX5100, it was an awesome machine, I kind of miss it. Maybe a post a few photos if you have time.

I have a MX5100 that I got in 2013. It is a great tractor. I got a bigger tougher bucket for it 3/4 yard and you can use it in the spring to take out all those little trees by the roots. I till the produce garden and finish mow old pasture with a 84 in cutter. It meets most all my needs. Nunamaker Farms - Home

You’re going to love your MX5200. You’ll want to add some LED lights to the ROPS, and at least one facing rearward. You’ll quickly find that the bucket does a really good job of blocking the headlights.

I ordered the MX5800
You make me want it even more after reading your post.

Not very many conversations on the MX series Kubota's

Johnny,
Also welcome. I am near Rochester as well, and enjoy my MX. This has been a brutal winter, and I added a cab (aftermarket) last fall. It is all glass made by Agrital. If you have interest at a future point, you would have an opportunity to see my installation. Several photos attached, winter application.

I have both the MX5800 and L6060. From the description of the work you plan to do, IMO, you made the right choice of the 5200 over the L4060. The MX is a larger machine and although similar in HP output to the L6060, is capable of transmitting more of that power to the ground.

I use the MX mostly for earthwork with it's LA1065 FEL and BH92 hoe. When I put the BH92 on the L6060 with it's LA1055 FEL, it just doesn't have the same earth moving power as the MX. I have R4's loaded with Rimguard on both and the hydraulic pressure is set at 2650# on both. I know the specs are similar for the 2 tractors but in the dirt, the MX wins.

Don't get me wrong, the L6060 is still a fantastic machine. I put more hours on it than the MX and I really enjoy the creature comforts of the Grand L. I use it for lighter duty tasks like mowing , landscaping and grapple work.

Anyway, you'll be happy with the MX and good luck!

I have been busy the last two nights trying things out. Last night I put the Land Pride STP-25 tree/post puller on and was ripping trees out with relative ease. I have 20 acres of old CRP land that the prior owner seemed to just let "grow" and I'm trying to get it ready for my farmer who is leasing so he can actually use it all. Anyway, it was pulling up to 4" trees out pretty easy. Now I just need to figure out how to route the hydraulic hoses so there is less change of them getting pinched. I think that model is made more for skid steers so the hose didn't line up as good as on the grapple. Once I get all the large saplings/trees out I'll be dying to start work on some clearing for plots and planting more trees out back. Then I keep remembering we are still in winter....

I did get LED's up on the ROPS so I have two Rigid 4 LED pod lights facing forward. I ordered 4 so I'd have 2 forward, 2 rear but for whatever reason they weren't installed when I took delivery. It may have been a blessing in disguise as I may just swing the two around and do a light bar on top. I'm pretty sure that will turn night into day :)

Majorwager - That cab look great. I didn't know they had one. I feel too young for that luxury at this point but as time marches on that may be the ticket. I thought I saw heat controls. The only other one I saw was vinyl. Great to know it can be added in the future. I'm plowing with an RTV currently and also out in the open air. I do have one piece of plexi for a windshield but no doors or anything. I gear up with hats, gloves, boots and snow bibs if it gets nasty. The RTV and hydraulic plow combo works great up to about a foot of snow OR until the banks get to about 3'.

TripleR,
Messick's has produced a you tube video describing the MX . Messick's states that this machine is not based upon an older series L. Have a look, see for yourself.

That's a great looking aftermarket cab ... What did that set you back?

TSO,
$4400. Complete, shipped to my door from Italy. Believe I could have improved the cost if I had first learned Italian.

Johnny,
Most folks agree that aeration is key to green paddocks/pastures, landscape, lawn areas. I have a Befco tiller with straight blades. It cuts "slots" in the lawn to allow rain penetration and combat compaction. Visit the Befco website and look at greenrite seeder. There is photo info how straight slotting improved an athletic field. I mention this because there is a local Amish welding shop that would fabricate straight blades for your tiller, converting to a duel purpose machine. Very economical. Let me know if you have interest.

If the aux work light circuit under the right rear fender on the MX was used to power the two LED's, it may not be sufficient to handle more lights. That circuit is only rated at 4.5 amps so check the rating on the lamps before connecting more. If it hasn't already been done, you may have to use another circuit or run a separate one back to the battery.

Thanks, will do, I went back and forth on the lot looking at them when I bought my L5030, looked at the specs and have been told the same thing, but Messicks should know far better than I.

I'm still not so sure, my L5030 had the same mechanical HST and yes more features standard and as options, but the basic tractor was pretty much the same. He talked about the MX having more weight, but it is 256 pounds lighter thn the open station and 631 lighter than the cab.

I see more similarities than differences between say an MX5100 and L5030, but that's just one opinion.

If he wants a light bar, that will definitely be it's own circuit. My son bought me a beautiful TSC light bar for my tractor, it needed 15 amps. Used a fuse box from Amazon Amazon.com: OLS 6-Way Blade Fuse Box [LED Indicator for Blown Fuse] [Protection Cover] [1 Amp] - Fuse Block for Automotive: Automotive, which worked great. Price has gone up a little, but at less than $10.00, I thought it was a steal.

Anyways, I decided the light bar was way more light than I needed so I put it on my side-by-side and put 4 LED lights on the ROPS, 2 floods and 2 spots. Have them on a 10 amp fuse, but together they still draw less than 5 amps.
