This is a pretty old post - hope somebody is looking at it... I have this exact machine. One would think that using it would be as simple as dropping it and running with it. Mine gets significant amounts of earth and stuff in it, make a big mess really. Anybody ever use one of these to any degree?

How and under what field conditions are you having this problem? If you have a lot of loose debris that is long or stringy it will choke up.

I use these a lot. The ground has to be totally dry or it's a mess. I use almost exclusively in July and August for fields and vast expanse of lawn. First I chisel plow, then cultivate, and then use the Brillion mentioned in this thread. I actually have a couple of them. Then I seed and wait for rain. It is perfect this way and rarely get into damp soil so no issues.

These are not for a damp climate or damp ground or they'll make mess.

My field was low in organic matter content, and I don't have access to manure... I decided to plow down 2 crops of oats. I actually disc'ed the last crop of oats in and then used the Harrowgator. If it doesn't like stringy debris then I put it in the worst possible field condition. The problem was clearly between the Tractor's seat and steering wheel. Thanks

Picked up the paint and some new bolts yesterday. I wish I could buy the durable acrylic enamel rather than the alkyd enamel I got but that's the way it is. The alkyd is not nearly as durable and will dull and chalk in time. Oh well. I bought a gallon on sale for $24 rather than two quarts for $13 each so I'll save two quarts in new quart cans for something else. I do need to paint my oxy/acy cart and some picnic table frames.
Once it's maybe 65 and sunny for a day or so--soon--paint is going on. Rebuilds like this are easy, can be useful or profitable if you care and save old junk from the recycler. Some of the small parts in one photo are from a separate proect. New paint will look great.

I dislike that Majik crap from TSC.
If you should ever need yellow, you can get that from CAT.
Their enamel is hard, is inexpensive, and formulated for CAT by Sherwin Williams...good stuff.

Agreed on the CAT paint. That is a great product, bulletproof and not many people know about it. Woods and Kubota also have great paint but CAT is wonderful.

I don't see the frog anywhere in the "finished" photos. I wanted to see where it fit on the harrow.

I saw it the other day and the paint looked pretty good. I'll try for a picture.

Bingo. It was on an open porch and is generally out of the weather. Other than some flaking in the chest area, it looks surprisingly good. The smaller frog was painted at the same time.
