I don稚 get why they would put a dipstick and a lever for the PTO in? Then fill it with fluid if none of it gets used.

Fred,
My understanding is that the factory shipped a tractor like the 821 so that the hydraulics, and lift arms could be added by the dealer. In it's long life a previous owner may have filled the hyd sump, not knowing it wasn't used.

So technically i dont need new o rings if there doesn't need to be any fluid in that compartment?

The OEM would not have placed the O-rings there if not required.

Leak appears to be gear lube? If you leave the cover plate off, can you tell where is the leak coming from?

Yeah it’s leaking out of the tubes.

Hi Fred,
2 new "O" rings and you should be all set.

Since you don't have the hydraulic pump that runs off the side of the engine the hydraulic cavity should be dry. If coming from the weep hole then possibly one of your tubes that run from the front plate thru the trans to the rear center housing is leaking. If leaking from the plate then try to replace the O rings. You can replace the lines that run thru the bellhousing or if you can find the leak in the bellhousing you could probably cut and can it off since you are not using the tractors hydraulics to run your loader/backhoe.
I knew a Fred Bear years ago. Bow and arrow guy, Any relation?

Since it appears you have a pto to run the backhoe pump there could have been fluid in the hydraulic chamber or the seal on the pto shaft could be leaking between the hydraulic chamber and the rear chamber. Try the O rings first, you might get lucky.
