What Makes Kubota Better Than Kioti

Well, no disrespect, but I disagree. I personally think some brands are better than others. In my case, I LOVE KUBOTA... I not only have all Kubota equipment, but I have Kubota tool boxes, stools, shop vac, etc. Now, I realize those items are "branded", but I still think it's cool. That being said, it's what I want... not making any judgments.

I have two Kubotas and see no reason why my next one (if there is even ever a need) would not also be a Kubota. Having said that, Kioti makes good machines per all the respected TBN members who own them. We can fly a Kubota flag but that does not mean other brands are not good as well. Just my :2cents:

I've never bought a single item in my life because it had a "brand" name on it. I just don't get it. My closest Kubota dealer has an old style pop machine in Kubota orange with their logo all over it. One of those horizontal models that you open the top, like a deep freeze, to get your pop. I didn't even ask the price.....

I think that "branding" is much like professional sports teams or political parties. Most people just love to take sides.

I'm guessing that a person who "just doesn't get it" about brand loyalty would be the kind of person who could enjoy football for the game itself - but without caring much about which side wins. Same for politics.

That makes you kind of a rare bird, but since I'm that sort of bird myself it all makes sense to me.

When I was shopping for my tractor in 2006, I thought any of the major brands would have suited me well. My impression of Kubota at the time was that they had created the small tractor market, but were riding on their laurels while other brands had leapfrogged them in design and features. Its not that there was anything wrong with Kubotas, just that other brands had moved ahead faster. I think this (perceived) difference has disappeared over the past dozen years, though.
I have said before, and still believe, that the quality (and accesibility!) of the dealer is much more important than the color of the paint...this is especially true for folks like me who are mechanically inept and must rely on the dealer for most maintenance.

You and I are in good company with ourselves Scotty. :)

In actuality, I have mixed emotions about this topic. On one hand, I think Kubota is the gold standard of CUTs. They defined the market, and earned their market share.

That said, I think LS and Kioti (and newly returned Yanmar) are on the hunt. They are making quality tractors with nice standard features. I view them as welcome competition and worthy contenders.

I also get that given the sticker shock, the value lines of CUTs are best sellers (witness New Holland Workmasters, John Deere E Series and Kubota L Series). That said, how much would it cost them to include stabilizer bars (instead of turnbuckles) and extendable lower links?

Finally, I like the Kubota BX, B, Grand, and M Series, but the L series strike me as the ba$tard love child of Kubota and Belarus. Too much center hump, too skinny tires (R1), and not really really refined enough to be a Kubota. Not to mention that goofy hydro treadle :yuck:

Go to a large equipment rental and see what brad of tractors they own. I've never seen a Kioti at a rental yard.

They're mostly John Deere's with Yanmar engines.

Airbiscuit,
Likely you would classify my MX as one of the love children, since it also lacks the frills of a grand L. Actually, difficult to miss what you do not have. As for the simple treadle hydro pedal, it is the only style of transmission actuator with which I am familiar. (Hydro, not gear) My ford is Japanese, same pedal. I place the greator value upon dependability and reliability, both provided by the MX. Center hump is only a slight rise on the MX.

If tractors are designed to work, mine delivers, never driven it to a cocktail party for class comparisons.

My neighbor has an L3901 and he loves it. As you say it is perfectly functional for work, and yes, we don't drive them to cocktail parties. Nonetheless, if Kubota remains complacent with their lovechild series, the up and comers will find ways to be more attractive to their customers.

I always wonder if people that buy cheaper stuff and stick up for it, would do that if they suddenly came into money. Just like people that swear by second hand vehicles, as if it's not that they can't afford new.
