Neighbors and their many running wild dogs

Good point, but a farmer with hundreds of acres with a dog that strays 500 yards from the house is still home. Someone with 1/4 acre and the dog strays the same distance is on others property. Just have Hershey bars floating in antifreeze for the win, sarc.
Anyone that would leave antifreeze out and lure any animal to ingest is should be force fed the same thing...!

A wrist rocket and some marbles make a great deterrent...

Amen. If you need to kill it do it humanely and with a sense of remorse that the owners did not teach the dog any better.

We had tracks up around our house and appeared to be stalking the fence line where the horse pasture is. Called the near by neighbors to see if any dogs were missing. No one said they were. Then next night heard coyotes. No problem taking those out if they are too close for comfort.

well, My problem with those dogs may be solved. I was talking to another guy in the area that has cattle.
He said he knows those dogs very well. Said he has also talked to the owner several times about the dogs running his cattle and got about the same response I got.
Said he caught some of them running his cows yesterday and shot them. Told me that is normal operating procedure when dogs start running livestock, as most can't be broke from ever doing it.

I have no idea how many dogs this knucklehead has left, But if he continues to let the others roam and continue to harass other people and their stock. He won't have any left.

.

I needed to break my healer of it and I did. Healer would chase the cows, border collie would bring them back to the healer. Healer would chase them, border collie would bring them back.... took me getting both under total voice control. Now I can stop them 3 feet from a rabbit. These were cows on my propety and young dogs so it is different, but the point is the same, they can be broken of it. The border collie never wanted to chase, but always wanted to get on the other side of the cows by nature.

It is the owners who do not care, do not stay with their dogs and let them run that are the problem. Owners are almost always the problem but their dogs pay the price.

And that's the sad truth of this entire thread.

I will supply the antifreeze. I hunt, fish, and trap; I raise poultry and pigs for my own consumption. Yet every animal is treated as humanely as possible. I have no use for anyone who mistreats an animal just because they can.

I don't know about this. I use antifreeze in my mouse traps. Drowning beats starving or freezing to death in my books.

They don't drown though, in the post which he was referring to. They die a painful death as their liver fails and organs shut down. No dog deserves to die that way because their owners are idiots.

It's a big difference between a mouse trap, and poisoning someone's pet. The antifreeze or a poison is indiscriminant and takes a chance on poisoning someone's cat, or dog that isn't being a nuisance or threat. The key word is poison, not putting them down fast and humanely.

Baiting an animal to poison them is a huge no no and you could end up with a felony cruelty to animal charge if you get caught. It also opens you up to liability charges if you kill someone's animal that isn't being a nuisance or threat.

Made the mistake of telling everyone . Now when something happens to the dogs you will be blamed . There is much to be said for SSS.

My neighbor let his 4 big dogs run free as well. They are extremely well behaved and trained however. They will approach people then sit about 20 ft away and come when call to come. All my nieces and nephews love them. Even my niece who are usually afraid of dogs is OK with them. Of course they will come to me for belly rubs and treat. In exchange for that they kept my property absolutely free of possums, raccoons, and coyotes. They love to hunt in pack and will take on any wild game save for the big gators in the ponds.

My neighbor told me his dogs love to be outside so he let them. He also sighed and said that bathing them every few days and taking them to the vet once a month to keep them healthy is tough on his schedule.

I think I'm lucky. I would hate to have the running wild dogs problem you have.
