I started listening to cajun music after watching the movie Southern Comfort.

I've got some Cajun and Zydeco music in my library. Good stuff. Sounds like awesome party music. I need to dig deeper.

One of the biggest sleeper bands I ever saw was at some motorcycle races at "Road Atlanta" (actually Commerce GA) back in the early 80's IIRC...

Had went down to see a friend race and he talked me into staying for a concert after the races...I was only slightly familiar with the band and had not heard much of their music even though they had been around...'The Fabulous Thunderbirds'...(Jimmie Vaughan)

I liked them too. And for those who don't know Jimmie Vaughan is Stevie Ray's brother.

Same thing happened to me when Jesus picked me up out of the gutter in 1975. I listened to a lot of contemporary Christian music for several years.

I tried Christian rock too. Liked a band called The Resurrection Band. Saw them play. No huge talent there. It bothers me that (in my opinion) most Christian rock is simply awful. It tends to be preachy and sappy. It does not have to be. Christian music should be able to embrace all aspects of life and sing about them. Not just churchy topics and themes. Maybe there is just something about rock and Christian music that just won't gel. The stigma of the rock lifestyle probably keeps people away from. U2 is not a Christian band but Bono is a devout Christian. Many of their songs explore religious content. If they can do it, others should be able to as well. I've heard the drummer from Iron Maiden is a Christian and Bruce, seeing that he has an airline pilot license, certainly isn't into the drug scene.

Rock 'n Roll is the best skating music.

Brings back memories from junior high years at the skating rink. Great, loud rock music at the local rink. All we wanted is fast rock songs and to skate fast. It really impressed the girls.....not!

I'm really getting into this Gary Clark Jr. Blak and Blu is just an awesome album from start to finish (the two bonus tracks are great too.) Style-wise it is all over the place. His range, both vocal and stylistic are just amazing. I can't say enough good things about this album and even like the (slightly) hip hop number in there too. Please Come Home is almost pure R&B with some guitar thrown in.

From what I've seen he also seems like a nice, well grounded person...which is refreshing.

He seems like the real deal, writer, singer, guitarist.

Check out the video for When My Train Pulls In. Great song. Amazing guitar work. The video is powerful too. Heavy message. (Probably rated PG-13 or R so be warned.)

Check out this video too. So tuned into the blues. Real soul. Probably my favorite. Will be buying his second album, The Story of Sonny Boy Slim soon:

Chicago reborn in Ukraine. Unbelievable group, Leonid and Friends. As good or better than the original. These people never saw a live Chicago performance.

Leonid & Friends

Passion. Persistence. Perfection.
By Scott Schwebke

In just three short years, Leonid & Friends has blown the minds of legions of fans with their uncanny ability to capture the spirit, musicality and fire of American supergroup Chicago.

And what is even more stunning is that Leonid & Friends hasn’t seen Chicago perform live, yet replicates the band’s complex arrangements amazingly note for note.

"Chicago has never been in Russia and none of us have attended their concerts," said Leonid Vorobyev, a multi-instrumentalist who is the band’s leader. "We have only audio records and videos (to help us learn Chicago songs)."

I've got to put in another plug for Gary Clark, Jr. He does a partial cover of Hendrix song Third Stone From the Sun. It is called Third Stone From the Sun/If You Love Me Like You Say. It is almost 10 minutes long and it is epic. Very heavy through most of the song, the middle part almost R&B.

I recently acquired a super high end audio system (for free, see separate thread on that) and this song is just incredible on that system even at moderate volume.

Glad you got that squared away, nice gear.

Now you need to hear that kind of system in an acoustically treated room.

I wonder how a log cabin rates?
