Out of curiosity, what's the name of the paper you are trying to get delivered to your place?

Winston Salem Journal.

I understand the reasons you gave, and as you mentioned, none of it excuses poor customer service, however it just irritates me that the paper said I should have it no later than 0730, added I should have a paperbox put up within 72 hours, and yet neither has ever happened.

The paper really hasn't started out on a good foot with me as they also had a billing error the first day I signed up (they found out 3 days later when I called).

The reality is the only reason why I want the paper to come on a "regular" time is for my dad. He's still a little sore from his back procedure, and he wants to walk out to the mailbox for exercise, and although he doesn't get up as early as he use to, he will take a walk out for the paper and he just never knows when he should go. It's not a hop skip and a jump for him down to the mailbox anymore.

Now, what really drives me bat****e crazy IS the gas station. You run out of the daily newspaper every day by 0900, I really want to know the reason why you wouldn't bring more papers to see if you can sell more.

The reality is if the gas station wouldn't keep running out of papers so early, my dad (and myself) wouldn't mind just driving up to the gas station in the morning, and I wouldn't of signed up for a delivery to begin with.

The Greensboro paper is no better. I think my parents finally gave up on it. Had bee. Subscribers for years and years when delivery went lousy. Then it got to where it wouldn't show up at all. At first they would run one out ...then they just got an automated system that would credit your account for the missed delivery.

We get our local paper (Allentown-morning call) delivered 7 days a week. It arrives sometime early, before 6:00 AM for sure.

Ironically enough, my one cousin works there LOL

Like I said, my dad got a small town (pop 14k) paper delivered to his paperbox like clockwork before 0500. Funny enough, to have the local paper mailed to me is about the same price as he was paying for delivery. May get the paperlate, but may end up ditching my local paper and go with my dad's local paper via USPS instead.

When I carried the Charlotte Observer we were supposed to have it delivered by 6:30 on weekdays and 7:30 on weekends...
The area manager took me around several days and used a cassette to record the drop areas...
Kept the recording until I had the route memorized...
Pretty darn efficient...
Not a bad job if you are somewhat disabled...
Just tough on your automobile and maintenance and taxes kill your profits...

Amen. Why do news organizations of any kind think they should take a side?

National news, yes. However, it is still good to see what's going on locally, particularly if you're not fond of using the internet.

The same comment you made can also be directed to online news sites as well IMO.

Besides that, at least for myself, I still enjoy Beetle Bailey, Zits and host of other comics.

But they always have taken sides. The problem today is that only one political group controls the newspapers. It used to be you would have papers that supported both parties but that went away decades and decades ago. The lie is/was that papers were NOT biased. They always have been but in the last century they started the lie about being unbiased. One of the largest NC papers even stated on their front page banner they were a Democratic Party paper for most of its existence.

I used to get the Wall Street Journal delivered but the schedule was all over the place and a few times a month there was no paper at all. When the Kindle Fire came out it was cheaper for me to buy the expensive new Kindle and the digital edition of the WSJ than pay for the delivered paper edition. The odd thing is the numb nuts know I have the digital subscription but they still send me snail mail trying to get me to buy the delivered edition. :confused3:

We have a local paper that is published once a week. I used to subscribe but when the subscription ran out they did not send me a bill to renew. :confused3: I keep thinking I need to renew but never get around to it. The subscription ran out years ago so they have lost quite a bit of revenue from me. I don't know how they stay in business. I want the paper to keep up with local events so I buy it at the gas station or grocery store. When I remember too. Seems to be a good way to go out of business.

There are a couple of newspaper boxes near our mail boxes. The neighbor hoods mail boxes are all in one place. Nobody gets a news paper anymore and one of the paper boxes has a birds nest inside.

Later,
Dan

Use to get a bundle of Stars and Strips delivered to Navy ships every few months. Would read them forward and backward at least twice until the next few bundles was delivered by COD. Eight month cruses were l o n g.
