Have a logging carry all in mind for my tractor. Want to be able to get into the woods with my saws, peavey, timber jack, fuel, oil, sharpeners, ropes, chains, etc., be able to cut logs, transport some firewood out, maybe skid logs out and roll them onto the platform once I am clear of the woods, for rolling onto a (future) saw mill track. I've seen some nice custom carry-alls pictured here, which is inspiring me.

I find myself pondering if I should buy a cat 1 pallet fork attachment and build my carry all using a pallet base, so it can be loaded and unloaded as needed, and I can also use the forks for occasional pallet moving, rock moving. Or am I better off with a purpose built/customized carry all? Tractor is a Yanmar 2210 without FEL, so all of this gets done on the rear end of the tractor.

Thoughts?

The pallet forks would seem to give you more flexibility in use of the tractor and equipment. Now and for unforeseen uses in the feature.

I built a round bale mover using 2"angle for frame and 2"square tube as forks. It works well for pallets plus I built a spray tank carrier and carry-all basket that forks pick up same way as pallets. I made 3 sets of holes for top link to control angle of forks as they are lifted. I highly recommend tip of forks be cut at about 60 deg and capped. Better still, flat forks like those on fork lifts. If I were to buy the one at TSC,(which is too flimsy for my use) I would bevel the angle iron fork tips to prevent snagging bale twine and everything else picked up.

Look at the TSC carry all. They show it moving pallets. Hard to beat for $150

Agreed, and there's one about 10 miles from me at TSC, so it's an easy get, and the price is right. The reviews on pallet work are mixed. Some say it works on every pallet they've tried, others say they can't use it for pallets. The video on the TSC web site shows it moving a pallet. Confusing.

Anyone here have the TSC carry all and use it to move pallets?

A Pat's Easy Mover would be more versatile.

This attachment is very popular in Great Britain and Ireland where it is known as a Transport Box.

I already have a rear scoop for moving and dumping loose materials, and the easy mover wouldn't work well for the range of logging tasks I have in mind.

I have that mod in mind.

The TSC carry all would be fine for light duty stuff but I wouldn't be rolling logs onto it that's for sure.. It weights 86lbs, pretty thin steel and poor welding done on most of them from what I saw.. A lot of people have to modify the top link hole on the them, not sure if that would an issue for your tractor or not.

Everyone is different. But we noticed a long time ago that pallet forks were the most used thing on the front of our machines. They rarely see a bucket actually!
