Hey all, I have a newer (2015) gc 1710TLB. This winter my fuel gauge I noticed was sticking at full all the time, so i assumed by sprint it would fix itself, but it hasnt.

any thoughts? its a minor inconvenience but one all the same i would hate to run her out of fuel if i forget to check.

Could be a few things. Locate the sending unit and remove the positive wire and if the gauge drops you probably have a faulty sender. Are you still under warranty?

only powertrain at this point.

sending unit i believe is under the seat, do i disconnect it while the tractor is running or off? I think it goes to empty when tractor is off if i recall so im assuming it needs to be on? how do i know which wire?

I have a little electric pump that I use to pump fuel from a 5 gallon can, my gauge wasn't working all winter either, I pumped the fuel out of my tank until it was about 1/4 full and then turned the key and now it works, don't know why..

just an update - Dealer sent me a new sending unit, replaced the one in the tank, still doing same thing, goes to full. if I disconnect the wire it drops down to empty, plug it back in goes all the way back up to full.

very odd, any other thoughts?

Interesting. My GC1720 fuel gauge is stuck on empty. If I push a certain way on the round connector plug at the dashboard it will work but as soon as I take my hand away it stops working. I thought it was just a simple bad connection at the plug but it is something on the dashboard circuit right behind the plug. Wouldn’t hurt to wiggle the round plug, maybe yours is just a simple bad connection.

Change the connector.. my 1705 was showing cold and not rising at all. I took it to the dealer and the connector was no good. They put a new one and it instantly worked

Check the screws that hold the gauge to printed circuit board, they are part of connection path from PC board to gauge mechanisms.... Had problem with temperature gauge not registering when new tractor was delivered ... A minute or two and stubby screw driver fixed it... Look from engine compartment side at 3 or 4 screws directly under gauge..

Dale, I think you also posted this fix in another thread somewhere last year. I tried it then on my fuel gauge screws and it didn’t work. This time I backed them off anout half a turn and then tightened them. Wallah! I have a fuel gauge again. I wonder if there is some kind of coating that doesn’t conduct well and I broke through it by loosening and then tightening the screws. Whatever happened, it works now. Thanks!

Looking at PC board it does appear there is a clear sealer on surface, and seems logical, you may be correct that there was some coating under screw heads and you may have "broken through it"... Some ditz at factory probably did not mask off those areas of PC board and it all got coated.... Any way glad problem is solved....
