Bear hunting with a switch?

RobertBrown - a VAST majority of the Alaska bear attacks are against unknowing tourists. Its a REAL TOUGH way to learn that all bears are not Yogi Bear or the friendly bear at your local zoo.

Personal safety is why the Fish & Game laws for Alaska REQUIRE a non-resident person have a guide while hunting any large game. They want a witness when the bear mauls the non-resident - ha,ha,ha.

I lived in Alaska for twenty two years and I've actually seen tourists walk towards brown bears with their cameras up to their face. God All Mighty - Man - - when this bear raises up to full height he is 9 feet tall and weighs 1200 pounds. I saw all this during the fall salmon runs on the Nunavac River on the Alaskan Penninsula.

The only action that could be worse than challenging a brown bear on his natural feeding grounds - - get between a mother bear and her cubs.

My first overseas tour with the AF was Elmendorf, Anchorage Alaska. USO ran hunting trips down into the Kenai. A buddy (city boy) took one. Came back and said he lost his rifle and would have to replace it. Said when that Alaska brown stood up from behind the brush he decided to just drop the gun and run.

bears can run faster than a human, and can climb trees, too. dropping your gun and running leaves you defenseless!.. it's a good way to get killed!..

Every time a human is attacked by a bear it's the bear's idea. Every time. It's never a necessity on the bear's part, it's always a choice. Man can't handle that part mentally.

Ran into this yesterday , different accounts in different states and with different calburs . A little long but good read for those interested .

Defense Against Bears with Pistols: 97% Success rate, 37 Incidents

Call me strange but I have also studied a little about bear scat , for instance how to tell griz scat from black bear etc .

you are not supposed to kill bears, just go defenseless into their territory, and let them maul or kill you, that being said, according to the link, the .44 magnum had the best success rate for those that want to violate the law, and survive!..

Not sure what deep thought you are trying to make. Who thinks it is not the bear's choice?

I am in bear country. I worry about it when walking the dogs, and usually carry a gun. Black bears are not grizzly, not that I want to test my luck with a charging one.

Got my first bear this year. Was excited. Granted the bear never knew what hit him.
