I need a power easement

It has taken a lot of leg work but I am finally getting the power into my property. I did slack off for a long while. But I am planning on retiring next year and thought I should get this done. I could not get in contact with property owner of the path indicated in the graphic I posted so again talked to the neighbor to the south of me. He said since I could not find the owner he was willing to sign all needed paperwork, "IF" i went underground. He would have lost 18 - 20 trees and I would loose many more if I went overhead. Plus East of us is a cow pasture and the trees help hide it a little. I had to agree that I would repair any damage done and left after the crew was finished. I also talked to the crew boss. He said he will not know it was done unless he saw it himself. I am hoping. After many trips to the court house and notary and back and forth I got all the papers into the correct authority and its a go. It is not cheap as I said in post #11 it was $7.25 a foot and turned into 715 feet. Plus another 500 for a security/deposit on the install. But he removed the extra $1000. for non residential. (because i will build next year. It has been scheduled for Thursday. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I am trying to get a weekend to go see if I have any repairs to make.
I did

Just looking at the last post and think it is great will be underground rather than run through trees. Will prevent down power lines. You may not have the ability to but if you do, they may discount that price if you can dig the trench they need. Power company use to but now have stopped that and they trench it them selves only. Do suggest that trench be marked for memories will fade.

I don't think you'll regret going underground. Just had another power outage this morning. Happens around here any time a bug farts. Branch fell on the 500' primary run the neighbor and I share. I'm underground from his driveway but there's still a lot of exposure. I've lost count of how many times it's happened...

Looked into taking it underground - but here it's insanely expensive. I'd jump at $7.25/ft. *sigh*

Outages were greatly reduced here when power co. installed what look like (smooth, shiny, black) insulated overhead wires. It runs through fir forest with trees several times taller than the power poles.

That's a great tip. "Tree wire" would make a major difference here. Don't know if PSE would do that for a 2-residence feed but I'll ask.

Thanks,
Z.

Since I live in Florida now I am not able to trench this in. The installers boss said because of the neighbor hassle he is going to 'stitch it in'. I wish I could be there to watch that. I did put up a trail cam to get some pics. If that works I will post some when I retrieve them.

Around here, that easement will cost you a bunch of money. Or simply be unobtainable. Your neighbor has no legal obligation to give you a easement. And he might have a bunch of reasons not too.

I disagree. In most states you cannot be denied an easement for either car access nor utility access to your property. If push comes to shove it has to be granted one way or another. Of course the power company deals with this hundreds of times a year as does the state. And everyone involved is more than encouraged to "work it out." If it does not get worked out offline it just gets more expensive and more legal counsel gets involved but believe me you cannot be totally denied.

All that said, glad to hear you got your solution and the problem is solved. I agree with others that underground service is very desirable even if somewhat more expensive. Especially with plans to build there you will never be sorry going underground.

Now as one of the others asked "What the heck is this doing in the Kubota owning and operating forum ??" Never fear, we have opinions on everything and will probably talk about ANYTHING!
