Best places to retire 2018

Large number of out of state drivers, large number of foreign drivers, retirees that shouldn't be on the road, and kids handed drivers licenses without being taught how to drive on an actual road after completing drivers ed.

The worst area for me when I lived in Florida was the toll road next to the airport in Orlando. People would get there rental cars, get on the toll road not knowing how to negotiate the tolls.

I almost smoked an old man in a transponder lane with my service truck down there. Had 10,000 lbs worth of trailer behind me. Old man locked them up in the outer transponder lane, bailed out of his car and tried to go two booths over to pay a toll.

I was doing about 55 on the process of slowing down to the 45 mph speed limit through the booth when the old man stepped in front of me. I was dropping gears as fast as I could pump the clutch and had the brakes locked up.

You should have seen the smoke rolling when the truck stopped.

For sure there are lousy drivers from all states...but in states like FL that have a large number of out of state drivers visiting it does not take long to recognize a pattern of inept drivers that all have license tags from a few key northern states...you could almost always guess what tags would be on a car that was causing problems and deterring the flow of traffic...

People are moving from Texas to get away from the people moving from California and New York. Texas used to be a great place. Not so much anymore now that they brought there idiotic ideas and the illegals.

Some of the same here. Thinking about moving to East Texas, maybe Gladewater, where I can buy a beer when I want it. Love East Texas, except in August. Beautiful country, lots of fishing and Pittsburg hot links are available. Good people, good food (Yamboree!) and there's bound to be a church nearby. Besides, I grew up in redneck country.

We sure have a lot of retirees coming to Oklahoma. In the last 50 years, the population has increased from about 1 million to 4 million.

And you attribute most to retirees? What is the attraction? :laughing:

I can't believe Florida is rated very high. It's hit from 3 sides from hurricanes practically every year. Winters are ok but summers are like living in a sauna. If you are a millionaire there is some pretty beachfront you can buy. Average person gets stuck with a high cost of living and sub-standard living conditions. I was born and raised in the south but if I could retire anywhere in the US, Florida would be at the bottom of my list.

Great people, clean air, low cost housing, decent weather most of the time, except for the occasional tornado. I live in a suburb of Oklahoma City; college town, clean, no crime to speak of, lots of open spaces. Median cost for a new home is about $125 per square foot. OKC is less.
