Best places to retire 2018

I can't believe Florida is rated very high. It's hit from 3 sides from hurricanes practically every year. Winters are ok but summers are like living in a sauna.

You forgot to add the highest point in the state is a little over 300'

You hit the nail on the head for both my wife and I.

I lived in Alaska for 22 years - 1960 to 1982. After the pipeline settled down - I thought of early retirement. It worked out just right - I retired in 1982 at the age of 40. We knew - for us - Alaska is meant for the young folks - not so much for those who want to retire. My family has always had this 80 acres here in Ea WA and that is where we wanted to retire. So in '82 we sold our house is Anchorage - moved down here - built a nice home here and have been here ever since. No regrets, I do exactly the same if I had to do it all over again.

In 42 years I will be looking for somewhere to retire as well, by the time I get to retirement, that age will prob be bumped up to 70 or higher.

I’m 28, my first part time job was in 3/2007, first full time job was 2010, been employed ever since.

I’m in Ohio, it ranks at like 36 lol.

Great people, clean air, low cost housing, decent weather most of the time, except for the occasional tornado. I live in a suburb of Oklahoma City; college town, clean, no crime to speak of, lots of open spaces. Median cost for a new home is about $125 per square foot. OKC is less.

I did basic at Ft. Sill. Weather gets HOT and weather gets COLD. Didn't get to see much of the state that long ago, but I do go out to Kansas and Oklahoma more than a couple of times per year for work. Nice place to visit, but WAY to flat for me.

I have endured more hurricanes in NC than I ever did in FLA...

Even taking into account I have now lived more years in NC than FLA, I have gotten hit by 'canes more in NC than FLA.

And I don't live on the coast! :shocked:

NW Oklahoma is like that...but Eastern Oklahoma is beautiful; lots forests and lakes.

I've enjoyed reading the posts concerning the best place to retire so thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth. I've had the opportunity to live in, or at least visit practically every state in our country and several foreign countries, courtesy of the U.S. Army. After several assignments at Fort Bragg, NC we were sold on the state as our place to retire. Great, down to earth people, military friendly government, great employment opportunities, low housing costs and low cost of living overall. We made that decision 30 years ago and couldn't be happier. We have a place in the country north of Fort Bragg and enjoy our way of life everyday, Just recently bought a LS XG3025 with FEL, Grapple and backhoe which enhances my happiness a lot.

I've had the opportunity to live in, or at least visit practically every state in our country and several foreign countries, courtesy of the U.S. Army. After several assignments at Fort Bragg, NC we were sold on the state as our place to retire. Great, down to earth people, military friendly government, great employment opportunities, low housing costs and low cost of living overall. We made that decision 30 years ago and couldn't be happier. We have a place in the country north of Fort Bragg and enjoy our way of life everyday, Just recently bought a LS XG3025 with FEL, Grapple and backhoe which enhances my happiness a lot.

Been to Myrtle Beach; beautiful state and beautiful country. Never seen such rivers...and bridges...in my life. Roads wind around and go everywhere like a cow path. If it wasn't for the satellite thingy on the wife's phone, I would have been lost all the time.
