MF 188 / FIAT 880-5
Hello everyone, a few days ago I bought a mf 188 (1979 not multi power) when i m trying to engage the PTO (tractor stopped)
A) whith PTO shaft , it is difficult to engage the PTO (hard noise)
B) without the pto shaft it is engage very easy,
C) if i select pto on rear axels it is engage very easy, but i want it to take power from the engine .
D) With the engine off everythink is ok, engage and work (it seems that the cluch does not stops the pto)
1st time MF owner my other tractor is FIAT 880-5

As I tell everyone....Your clutshpedal has 3 posisions
1. Freetravel about 15mm with one finger on the pedal
2. Press the pedal down with one hand to a possision where you can feel another rezistons is your gearshift possition
3. Press down with your foort and you will feel the rest of the travel and that will be the PTO disengage and in that position you can turn the PTO shaft at the back by hand.
If not you will have to adjst it going in at the bottom of the bellhousing.

Dear Sir
With all my respect to your 1000 posts (that mean knowledge) and also my 1st time on MF (used to use FIAT) as i said on B the pto engage very easy when there is nothing on 3points , when its free. So i ve already change the bold (on the red circle ) and the clutsh came too high , nothing has change, on monday i ll go to a service for check , but i want to beleive that i m doing something not in correct way.(sorry for my ENG) Inkedclu_LI.jpg
Next mounth i m gonna need it for sprayer and i have to learn. Thank again for your answer!!

The bolt under your circel is a clampingbolt to adjust the freetravel for the pedal.
I am thinking that the pto going in easy will be with a slight grr. When there is laod on it wil make a much longer grrrrrrr and not goung in

Do you think that there is a problem on the tractor or there is my ignorance and i should try again when i ll be more calm following your first reply? I thought that i have to give some more money to split the tractor etc, (maybe i should find someone with the same MF188 or 185? to show me the correct actions) Thanks again for the reply .

I will take some photos of the inner working of the clutch and send it tonight

I will take some photos of the inner working of the clutch and send it tonight
First do the freetravel by loosening that bolt....lift the pedal and rotate that shaft going into the bellhousing until you have about 5 mm play at that clamping bracket s top to the casing

Thank !!! I got courageous. The owner of the tractor was an old man who use it the last years only for traveling at his rented now fields (the tractor used on 60 acres) and his son came to sell it because he afraid for his father that he will make accident. So for 2 years it was in a barn, that s why i bought it , but on a used tractor you never know it s a lottery,

Look at bottom of bellhousing and you wil see that there is a inspectioncover . Open it with a 24mm wrench and you will be able to see the pressureplate.
Adj that bolt so that you have a clearance of 1 to 1.5 mm . All 3 must be the same !20180823_170333.jpeg
