For ubifi, sure... but I think he meant the signal strength app:

What app did you use? What device did you run the app on?

Network Cell Info Lite, run on my Samsung GS6 Active phone.

Available on Google Play Store

The Mobley plan says that you may be throttled after 20GB, Ubifi is unlimited with no throttling threshold.

I bet that you could take the SIM out of a Mobley and put it into a Mofi so you have a fixed station with built in WiFi and better cell antennas but still only pay $20/mo. You still run the risk of being throttled though.

That would be interesting to see if it works. Have to get someone with a Mobley together with someone on UbiFi.

For my location that is over 9 miles from three towers, the strongest signal isn't the fastest speed. I used Internet Speed Test | Fast.com to find the best download speed.

Moving the Mobley just 1/4 inch on the window sill can make a big difference in the speed.

I have MOFI with ATT plan I got from 4GAS before they moved to FL. Pay year in advance and get a better rate. I have 2 Yagi antennae. Performance is better than Mobley which I use to use to extend my network with Ubiquiti Pico2. My plan was (is) to put the Mobley ATT sim into the MOFI eventually, but I haven’t yet. Someone on Howard Forum reported it works well.

I don’t have much antenna selection, just 2 but would like to find IOS app that would tell me which is better. When I set my system up I just used my iPhone pointed general direction of each antenna.

How much difference is there in speeds between the two?

Rob

I access the MOFI via my eero network which usually shows mid 30’s. My Pico network usually mid teens. Both DL.

My Mobley will get 15-20 down if I get it positioned just right in a north window and tape it to the glass. The problem with this is it's in the hot sun part of the day so I have moved it inside the blinds where I get around 4 down.

I was hoping to attach a cheap suction cup antenna and get to 10-15 and keep the Mobley inside out of the heat. I bought one that had mixed reviews but some said they had good improvements with other 4G hotspot devices. It came with TS9 connectors so I changed those out with the MS156 connectors. I gave it a go yesterday but I started the day out with a sketchy connection. I was never able to get any connection with the external antenna connected but that was also the case off and on with it in normal configuration. Some days I have to restart the device even though I have it on a timer that turns it off for a 1/2 hour in the wee hours of the morning. It could be I didn't get results because the tower was having issues which I have confirmed is my problem at times. I also didn't know which two connections to use so I stuck with the center one I had seen someone else connected to and alternately tried one of the other two and also tried just using that one. On some other type devices I have read two of the connections are the 4G LTE antennas and the other is for a GPS antenna. Not sure the Mobley has a GPS module but the connection could just be on the board. Does anyone know which two connectors are for the 4G LTE antenna? I am going to give it another go one day when the unit is behaving.

This is the unit I tried.

Here are my connectors. I checked both with an ohm meter to make sure they were connected and not bridged. This was a real challenge for my shaky old nerves. These things will also come off the board connection if you look at them wrong.

This is where I always had one connection.

This is where I can tape the Mobley and get 15-20 down.

My Mobley finally died completely. Gets no signal form any location. All the days I had it taped to a hot window may have contributed to it's demise.

I found a used ZTE Velocity MF923 mobile hotspot device on ebay and bought that. Just plugged the Mobley sim in and it powered up and works fine. (note: sim has to go in contacts up. Didn't say in manual. It is possible to put it in upside down but reports no sim when you start it.) Time will tell if it continues to work okay. I still had to mount it in the window but I have it inside the blinds to protect it from the heat some. Sitting the window sill it barely got over 1 Mbps. Higher up where I had the Mobley it got 3 Mbps. Ironically I tried it lower down so the extension cord didn't look so bad and hit the sweet spot at 20 Mbps. Another funny observation is I was getting 1.27 up at the 3 down location but only .75 up at the 20 down location. Either way I am back in business. The Velocity is a nice looking unit with a touch screen and built in battery.

New software version eliminates the "No Time Out" option. I had read about this on Howard Forums and had been checking to see if mine had been updated.

I turn my Mobley off every night and on when I get up in the morning. A few days ago it quit 30 minutes after I turned it on. I looked at the LEDs, power was on, Wi-Fi was off.

Powered off and back on, checked the software version, it had been updated from V1.0.1 to V1.0.3. I left it set at 30 minutes and it has never timed out again.
