Wood splitter powered by tractor hydraulics vs small engine powered

It’s a lot harder work cutting over trailer vs a clear working area. Despite what you think that’s not the only and best way to cut wood.

You are standing there cutting wood brought to you, it's actually easier as it's up off the ground!

NO bending over, NO running the chain in the ground, NO having to turn the pieces to finish the cut ect. ect. ect....

But, then again I bet you have never tried it, so you are the expert on the subject... lol

I don’t have 2 people usually. I do cut wood off forks. Once the rounds pile up it’s harder to deal with and I move back a little. Cutting over rounds it’s hard to walk and the cut piece hit them and roll uncontrollably. But you do it however you want. On the event I do have help I cut while they split. I won’t pay help unless it makes things go twice as fast as I can do by myself. Mowing and cutting wood isn’t one of them. I will pay help to split wood because it’s unskilled work anyone can do.

I don't always have a helper, I cut the same way alone, because it's MUCH faster...

Make a cut and when they pile up, take a step back on the wagon and cut more...of course my pallet fork/grapple holds them so they don't roll, something you also say doesn't work!

Like I said, you don't it, so as usual you don't know what you are talking about...

OK, back to ignoring you... lol

First time I ever saw someone cutting wood on a trailer, I cut stacked logs right off of the pulp truck, That's why they make horizontal/vertical log splitters, the small ones you lift, the big ones you stick a pevey hook into and move them on the ground.. Cutting on that trailer also looks pretty dangerous..

I agree it’s dangerous. And climbing on the trailer to cut one log and getting off to get on the tractor to get another one is definitely easier and faster than setting several logs on the pile to cut. IMG_4628.JPG

Regardless of the technique...the more each piece of wood is handled (either in rounds or splits) the more work it is...The less times a single piece of wood is handled (from downed tree to stacked in wood shed) the less work/energy involved...

I enjoy doing it, if someone is going to burn firewood for primary heat they better be ready to work.. I handle a split about five times from the saw to the stove..

Maybe some of you guys should try the way I do it on for size..

Part of what keeps me warm with wood burning is the act of moving it around. I can work up a sweat that way and suddenly the house feels too warm for a while. :)

Don't see why? Trailer doesn't move around as you work, it's flat and doesn't have a slippery floor.

I leave the chainsaw on the trailer and use a short step ladder to get up onto the deck, very easy and safe, of course if you are a klutz, you shouldn't own a chainsaw in the first place!

Many times I grapple several at a time and cut them all together, it goes very fast and saves a lot of work.
