I finished up cleaning up a rocky acre of pasture. Three weeks ago I used the grapple and the backhoe to pull out the big rocks which I used to hold, stabilize and filter the downslope side of the pasture before it drains into the beginning of a creek. I then used the box blade to separate out the mediums sized rocks and fill in the biggest of the holes from the removed rocks. Then it rained 14 inches in three weeks which broke our drought and settled all the soil into the excavated holes.
Then yesterday after work I used my grader to level smooth everything out while using it and the tractor to create the downhill wall. Finally, today I spent 8 hours with the landscape rake cleaning the small stones and smoothing the whole thing out. Now it's time for the grass to take off as much as it can before we get our first frost in two months. I'll overseed with winter rye and then ready for the magic of spring. Tomorrow it's back to clearing cedar.
