Life Long GM Guy....New Ford

Over the years I have had them all, GMC, Dodge, Chevy, Toyota and Fords. .. We have 4 Fords now..not because I'm a die hard Ford guy.. it's just easier for me to call my friend who is the GM at the local Ford dealer, and he gets me what we ask for at a reasonable price. ...I loathe going into dealerships and playing the buying game.. I just don't have the time for it. Friend of mine has a new Denali 2500 diesel that I drove a bit. Very nice truck and would certainly consider one if the buying process was as easy.

5.4 was a weak junk motor, the new 5.0 and ecoboost are a totally different animal..
Thats debatable on the 5.4 motor. Most of my repairs were with the rest of the truck.Think I got a lemon which happens every now and then.

Everything is debatable, I had four of them, weak gas drinkers, mechanically, I didn't have many issues but there gutless.. I bought four at the same time for my boss, he didn't do that again. Even pulling a small tractor up hills it would to the floor screaming looking for a gas station..

Ya think?? My point..

Congrats on the new truck and a good choice.

I have owned a lot of fords, I own 3 ford trucks now and they have all been good and done what I wanted. My current trucks are 81 F150 2wd 300ci Auto, 95 F350 dually 2wd Auto 460, 05 F350 dually 4x4 v10 6 speed.

I have had so many trucks, it would be a long list but generally I have good luck with Ford, I always go back to them. I do like GMC trucks, not a fan of the Chevy trucks even know they are pretty much GMC trucks, just don’t like the looks of them and Chevy owners give the ford guys a hard time ever chance they get, I’m on the Ford side of that argument but secretly like GMC lmfao.

Anyway if I were to order a new F150 it would be the 5.0, I feel like they would be more time tested over the ecoboost and they are not far behind on power vs the 3.5L.

You laid your GVWR is 7k, that’s pretty good, my SRW 1990 F350 with a 351W ZF5 had a GVWR of 8800lbs and rode like a skate board on the road lol but that truck could only tow around 10k total, I had 1600lbs of hay in the bed and 9k in a loaded trailer with hay and best I could do was 45 and it really struggled, newer trucks are much more capable but that also comes with a much higher cost.

I personally can’t wait for the baby powerstroke to hit the F150s, I have thought about ordering one as a commercial (Farm Truck) in a single cab XL. It won’t be available to consumers until lariat or above packages and is an expensive option. It’s a v6 turbo diesel, puts out I believe around 200hp and 425ft lbs.

If you like the idea of the baby powerstrokes the Ram 1500 EcoDiesels are available in the lower trim. We got the lowest trim that still had a backup camera for ~27k and we've been incredibly happy with it over the last ~27k miles. Get about 30mpg highway, ~15-18 when towing the tractor or horse trailer. It's really quite a truck for the price/size.

I have just under 15K miles on the truck now and had a problem with it yesterday. It started making a clattering sound intermittently from the engine. The service engine light came on so I checked it with my code reader. It had misfires from a couple of cylinders and a cam sensor fault. It actually died on me at a stop sign (not the auto-stop). I called the dealer and made an appointment and dropped the truck off yesterday evening for the appointment this morning. I didn't mention reading the codes just so I can compare their story to what I know. So far this dealership has been great to work with but I just want to make sure they stay that way.

This is the 3rd time to the dealership for recalls/repairs in less than a year. I am still enjoying the truck as long as this doesn't continue. I don't mind shaking the bugs out of it on their dime. The only problem for me is the 80 round trip to the dealership. I asked them to service it and please perform any other recalls or whatever while they had it.

Wow! Sorry to hear about this.

My 2016 XLT Supercab with the 3.5 Ecoboost has been flawless in the 2-1/2 years I've owned it. Never been back to the dealership. Just shy of 30,000 miles on it now. Overall mpg average since new is 20.9 mpg - and that's calculated by a spreadsheet, not what the dash display says.

Have you had the seat belt recall yet? I believe that it covers every truck from 2015 up. It seems like every truck has a few recalls lately; my 2004 Ranger went in this spring for the air bag issue. I'm not sure if they are more common, I just notice them more, or dealers are a little more diligent about fixing their errors.
My next new truck will most likely be a Ford, mostly because my employer always buys Chevys and I want a different view out over the windshield. Although I'm hearing good reports about the Rams, including 23 MPG.

Yes I had the seat belt recall done and the gearshift indicator clip recall done as well.
