A little nuts I guess but always enjoyed cutting firewood

me too. Our farm had 70 acres of mostly hardwood behind and around our home
and I grew up in the woods. Marvelous quiet place to be. Sitting on a big flat rock by our small brook
that went through our property down to the Delaware River. Crystal clear water, we used to lie flat on our stomachs on that rock
and just stick our mouths in the water to drink. Water was ice cold, tasted wonderful. Had to be careful of skeeter bugs while drinking,
wouldn't be good to suck one of those in...

What I was telling you Drew happened in 1980/81. By 2002 he had cancer in every body organ you can get that awful stuff in. A week before he died my dad asked doctors if he could go back to the beach one last time. Mother and I took him stopping every hour for dad to use the bathroom. Every morning we rolled him out in his wheelchair to the porch where he watched and listened to the sounds of the beach falling asleep numerous times. Once we returned home the next week he told us what a great time he had great life would not change a thing fell fast asleep and died peacefully in his sleep

Need to pour first cup of coffee. 47° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 53° with late pm rain. All papers are either burned or shredded. Bought wife a Sleep Number. It will be delivered today. Cleaning up the room will be at top of list today. No other plans.

Don, we have a digital thermostat. It is Honeywells top of the line thermostat. It is set for day time at 74° 6am to 9pm and night time 71°. Just a touch of the screen will allow temperature adjustments. It also works with our smartphones. It can switch between heat and AC automatically. But it is set to manual switch. It also controls humidity in house. Uses a outside temperature humidity sensor to help keep windows from having to much moisture collet on them when cold. We also use the circulate fan setting during winter to keep more even temperature in house.

33 and snowing, going to 45 with rain or snow. Wind E 17 mph.

I have a manual thermostat and it is set at 68 year round. Summer time we just shut the furnace off at the building code ordered switch but not at the panel.

I got the neighbours' load of dirt moved and placed. She seems to think that my 20' long tractor will articulate as well as steer. It sure was tight, moving that dirt. It took three hours, including travel time and many stops for instructions. Payment was enough enchiladas for two meals for three of us. She offered cash for the fuel as well and I requested 'nuns farts' for the fuel. I was going to charge her 'nuns farts' for the whole job. She is an excellent pastry chef and makes cinnamon rolls to die for. The left over pastry is what goes into the nuns farts. They are just mini cinnamon rolls.

Ron, how does it control the humidity, does your system have a dehumidifier connected? I know the AC here dehumidifies the air just by the temp difference but on cold days we have a stand alone dehumidifier.

There is a humidifier attached to the furnace. No need for a dehumidifier in our climate. We run AC to control humidity in summer.

66° this morning with forecast to 82° this afternoon. The 1/2" of rain, that came with front yesterday morning, is just keeping pastures saturated. So, tractors remain parked for a few more days.

Might be a good day to wash outside windows, not my favorite job.

Before I retired, we used the programmable thermostats at the Ranch to get house comfortable by mid-day Friday until Monday a.m.

Good morning to all! Low of 38 this morning, going up to 61. Breezy this morning, getting windier this afternoon with strong gusts as a cold front approaches. No precip is expected.

Randy, amazing cake, almost to nice to actually eat it. How long does it take to make / finish one like that?

Drew, just do it...get what will be right for you. You've worked hard for everything you have achieved, now is the time to enjoy doing what YOU want!

RNG, yes, I too can not believe they are playing Christmas songs already.... The wifey and I were talking about how we couldn't wait until the political commercials, pamphlets, and yard signs would be over with this week after Election Day. I was joking saying, "yes, but the Christmas commercials will start right after"....didn't think they were going to start earlier.....

Maybe it's just to help Randy get in the mood for his big upcoming Thanksgiving get together :thumbsup:

44°F and cloudy skies this morning, going up to 54° today. Expecting some more rain this afternoon, then dry the rest of the week. Saw a snowflake for next Monday on the iThingie weather app.

Wife and I moved furniture from our storage unit in New Baden for the new "spare" bedroom in the basement. We put in her grandfather's old four-poster bed, an old dresser, chest of drawers, and an antique dressing table. Put my cello in one corner for now as well. The tall dresser has a tilting mirror mounted on two arms, one of which broke off while moving. She grabbed it and snapped it right off. Fortunately, the wood broke across the base, and was easy to fix with a little wood glue and a couple of clamps. Remounted it and the mirror on Sunday.



Got the new television mounted on the wall Sunday morning. She found a relatively cheap 39" one of some Elements brand I'd never heard of. The thing is super light weight. got the wall mount installed and the TV mounted on it in about 10 minutes. Took longer to get the tools than to do the work. Hooked up the satellite box and Blu-ray player (had to run to WallyWorld to get a couple of HDMI cables), went through the unnecessarily complex setup process, and then we both laid there on the bed and watched some Discovery Channel show for a bit, marveling at the incredibly crisp picture on this cheapo TV. So now, I guess we have two televisions in the basement that we'll rarely watch. :confused3:

Spent the rest of our rainy Sunday puttering around in the studio, mostly getting song files set up on different hard drive partitions.

Rick, my Wife bought some of those hard-boiled egg doodads, too, and we still haven't used them. Last week, she bought some of those weird silicone rings to make round eggs for breakfast sandwiches. We haven't used those yet either.

RNG, what does wood cost a cord in California, and what type of wood is normally delivered?

Am surprised California still allows you to have lit flames...

Split and dried oak is going for about $220/cord around here, Drew. There are a LOT of orchards being taken down due to the water shortages, and fruitwood can be found for less. East of here in the higher elevations of the Sierra, only pine is available, but I don't know what they charge for it.

There is a burn ban now, unless you're a farmer burning slash down in the valley, and those fires are HUGE! But they must only be done on days that the California Air Resources Board says it's OK to do so. If you have an EPA approved woodstove, you can also burn, and I'm under the impression you can do that even on days that CARB bans burning. But it seems like every week I read about the fire department being called to put out a brush pile in someone's yard or a grass fire started from an improperly operated lawn mower on a windy day, both of which are prohibited until it starts raining again and humidities return to more normal values.
