By the looks of these bolts I found on Ebay, From what I can see, they look like grade 5 bolts. For which I would think 35 foot lbs would be too high of a torque

Or was I given the wrong torque for those bolts? Or are the bolts indeed grade 8 and I am not seeing the picture correctly. Or do they just have a different bolt pictured?

I just got off the phone with a gentleman that has been repairing JD tractors since the 70's. He has his own business & overhauled 13 JD engines last yr & 7 engines this yr plus numerous clutch/trans/hyd repairs. He happened to have a JD 4010 in his shop for repairs. He stated the stroke control valve on hyd pump on this 4010 was pointing down. He stated if head on hyd pump was rotated 180ー that the orifices wouldn't line up correctly & if pump body was rotated 180ー when installed in tractor that pump wouldn't pump correctly.
Jim

So just to be clear, the plug for the filter was also pointing down, so the pump screen could be changed without dropping the pump or tearing the top of the tractor off?

From what I have been told, the pump would not work at all if things were not put together right.

My pump definitely worked for several years as it was. I don't know how much better, if any that it worked before I got it. Or if it made that whining noise ever since.

I find it hard to believe that 3 out of 3 random pumps would be put together wrong.

But something has seemed upside down from the gitgo.

With the port sizes from side to side being what they are, You can't hardly turn that part of the pump upside down.

Would it be possible to rotate 180 degrees and flip it over? Would the orifices line up then? That would put the orifice back on the correct side at least. I've never seen one apart so, I don't have clue exactly what has been talked about.

Can you see a casting #(R32291 OR R32441) on the main pump body? I can envision 3 pumps being assembled incorrectly in same locale by same technician. If pump body was rotated 180ー then orifice for banjo fitting would be on the bottom not the top. It is possible early hyd pumps were installed differently but I certainly don't remember that happening. I've seen several of this style hyd pumps disassembled BUT it was over 30 years ago.

I will check both pumps later. One pump is from 4 hours northwest. But you never know, that tractor could have been local at one time also

Is there anyplace I can send pictures to from my flip phone? I can send them to a phone number, but I have a heck of a time sending them to an email.

Would your friend be able to receive pics of the 2 pumps I have here and advise from that?

I got more specs this morning from a John Deere Tech.
pump drive to pump shaft - we had 35 ft lbs - this says 32 ft lbs

pump drive coupler cap screws 25 ft lbs - we had 20 ft lbs

Tie rod end to steering arm - 100 ft lbs. We had something like 80 ft lbs.

We have the banjo bolt at 110 ft lbs - unverified

The 9/16 straight thread ORB fittings in the SCV are 24 ft lbs.

Steering plate bolts are 300 ft lbs and 170 ft lbs

The number on the pump off the tractor is front plate - R32442R casting R26098R

The number off the new to me pump is - front plate - R27470R casting number is partially obliterated R2_ _ 98 it has a bypass valve or something sticking out one side

I got those numbers off the front cover. I see by the pictures there are numbers elsewhere. Back out I go.

I took some pictures and am trying to get them to load.

Here is a pic of an ebay pump withe same number as off the tractor.

It is oriented upside down from mine. The plug with the roll pin is up - mine is down

The front plate on both of my pumps has the numbers upside down

Here is a picture of the pump that came on my tractor. The picture is horrible, but I can make out that the plug with the roll [pin is definitely NOT up. It is down

All of the pumps on Ebay are oriented upside down from the 3, I have personally seen.

None of them have the ports capped off to prevent dirt or anything from getting in. I would not buy any of them

I found a good old tech an hour west of me. He said that there were years or runs, that the 4010 pumps were configured as mine is.

Felt good to finally find somebody that knew exactly off the top of his head.

I am pretty happy about it. I hope me finding him doesn't affect his health. I'm sure he doesn't want to join the last 2 trustworthy techs I used.

If I had found him earlier, I'd have just taken him the tractor and been done.
