Finally got around to doing the floor coating for my shop it’s only been sitting 3 years waiting for me to make a decision on which coating and also the time to do it.

I ended up going with Armorpoxy brand and there armor ultra kit, it’s a 3 coat process. So far I’m really pleased how it turned out, how ever it was a LOT of prep work for 1 person with it only being 1200 Sqft.

First was many power washings of the floor and scrubbings , I then lightly went over the entire floor with a 7” hand grinder with a diamond cup wheel. The shop had only been used to store my tools and shop equipment since it was built but I did find a couple of spots were some oil leaked out of a tote and a piece of shop equipment. After cleaning many times I still could not completely remove the stain , so I ended up using a 2 part oil spot primer over the area were the stains were just to be safe.

The next day I did the entire floor with the 2 part epoxy primer.

On the third day I put down the epoxy and color flakes. ( The lighting in the pic makes it look tan for some reason but it’s light gray.)

Fourth and final day was the 2 part military clear top coat.

This was after a couple days of dry time.

Floor has been down about 4 weeks now and I’ve finally started doing electrical work and started putting the white wall metal up. Should really start to brighten up inside.

I build my drive shed in 2014 and was going to go with a fancy floor but the year got too late.

I have had major oil leaks and floor damage from moving equipment and skids around. Plus, so much dirt gets tracked in there, sometimes I think, what's the point?

Can it be scratched? Can one really clean up oil so the stuff will stick?

Yes it can be scratched by heavy equipment, nothing on the market is scratch proof. According to armorpoxy there are ways to get the floor into a usable condition to install a coating. If I were going to have heavy equipment with tracks and such I wouldn’t have done this type of coating. Also welding sparks and slag from cutting torches will put burnt spots in it.

Looks real nice! I just want to know how you could possibly wait 3 years without using the shop? I couldn't wait 3 hrs after the basics were all done...

What is the cost per square foot, lets say per 100, or 500?

Yeah, I think the last time I saw a floor like that, it had a couple of Mercedes cars parked on it.

Actually it went by pretty fast with all the other projects and stuff I had going on. I spent almost every day I wasn’t at work in my old shop for the last 15 years , so a little break the past 3 doing outdoor projects was nice.
