I never have that kind of trouble. But, then I keep everything in good working order.

If you engine is wet, and won't crank, you have a lot of bigger problems than getting air to dry it.

So your point ignition tractor will sit out in a rain or snow storm and still crank? What did you treat the ignition system with to get that dependability?

So everybody with a "point ignition tractor" has to spray WD-40 all over the engine to start it, after a rain or snow storm?

I have owned, and operated many point ignition vehicles, including a MF35, and I have never had to do that.

If I did, I'd convert it to electronic ignition, or make some other changes to it, so it is dependable.

You're missing the point (no pun intended) that WD40 is a useful product.

Yes, so is duct tape, if that's the limit of your abilities.
If you think that having WD 40 and or duct tape handy is being an inferior mechanic...it is YOUR abilities and intellect that are limited...

I have read about holding a rag in front of the air intake on a diesel,, soaked in gasoline,,
the gasoline fumes aid in starting a cold diesel,

This seems safer than ether,, if it works,,

Does anyone have first hand knowledge of gasoline fumes aiding in starting a diesel??

A friend tried the gasoline soaked rag trick on a clapped out backhoe. It didn't work that time. It looked like a good way to get burned alive to me.
I 've used starting fluid for years on my lawnmower because I'm too lazy to rebuild the carb. The mower still runs.
