Dangerous times even in small town

It's easy to sit here and type what we would do in certain situations, and I have read some really good ways to handle the aftermath. In reality though none of us really know how we will act/react during and after a hostile situation. I hope that I never have to find out.

And we each will react slightly different in different situations.

Without degrading the situation I'd like to add a comment regarding the CC man in the video that died.

His initial reaction was spot on. The problem came when he hesitated to pull the trigger. Gave away his intent by walking 20-30ft gun drawn and not pulling the trigger. He gave away every advantage he had.

If had shot the perp within a couple seconds of pulling his weapon he would have had the advantage over the second perp. She would have instantly went into defense mode which would have given him the edge.

These scenarios are played out repeatedly in tactical training. Had this man experienced that training he would have probably acted much more aggressive. And he would probably be alive today.

God Bless him for his sacrifice.

Don't know any Jack. But I know being in a gun fight. Do you?

Slow gets you killed every time.

Does being shot at count?

Slow doesn't get you killed, making mistakes when the other guy doesn't does (added with a spinkle of luck either way).

Daughter, now 32, was a HS senior when she was approached at a gas station by a couple guys asking for directions. Said they were from Tennessee and she looked at their car and said why do you have Illinois plates. We are in KY. They started approaching her closer and she pulled the nozzle out of the car and pointed it at them. Told them she would soak them down with gasoline. They left cussing her. I appreciated her bravery but told her the next time to run inside the station.

RSKY

Which brings up another point; pulling your keys while at the pumps even if you are using a card and not leaving your vehicle is likely a better option than planning on a quick get-a-way.

In your comments to me,,, yes being shot at counts. And you have not.

Doesn't mean your opinion doesn't count. Just means when you make a statement regarding the proper way for someone to act/react it lacks some credibility.

As others have said, train, train, train. Realistically train. If properly trained your reactions will be more methodical withou distracting thoughts of fast/slow. Then it becomes obvious that slow is not smooth, it's deadly, to you.

Ken

You never know, if someone makes it to your house, you may be screwed and not even know it. It is always easier for a defensive position than go after a threat, even in your own home.

If they get by over the fence,or through the gate, and by the cameras, pass the dog barking.
I doubt they can get past all three. If you watch the news, these thugs are always caught on camera. They aren't smart enough to know, these days, many people have cameras. I happen to be one of those peoples.
If they are smart enough to out smart me. I deserve to get it.

No one was shot in the incident I mentioned.

I did talk to the guy that I mentioned in an earlier post , that shot someone in self defense ..
Boy, does time fly !! He reminded his suit has been on going for six yrs instead of the two yrs I posted. It suppose to go to trial some time in april, if it isn't postponed again

training is correct. Train with malfunctions as well.
That's why I don't have different types of guns. If I need to use my gun and it jams, etc,. I don't need to be thinking about what brand gun I have on me at the time, and what I need to do to clear the malfunction

Just come and watch newbies at any of the sports above and you'll see some really bad shooters, bad habits, dangerous habits. And these are people trying to get better.

I was at the indoor range... only one left as all the outdoor ones have been closed.

Anyone... the evidence of new shooters is everywhere... I was looking out as a beginner was taking her first shot... it was a good one... took out the ceiling light fixture!

I was visiting with a regular... he is 94 and shoots every week... has to spend a day each year qualifying at the Sheriff's Headquarters... 60% fail to qualify... years ago... they called him the old man... not sure what they call him now... but he is by far the oldest still working on the job with CCWP.

Never had to draw once... did brandish once... was going to make a large cash deposit for the business... pulls up and on both sides of his car he is approached by young men trying to open car doors... he was 80... pulled his weapon and they scattered... came up from behind in the blind spot.

Will never know but the bank said a several days later a customer was robbed by several "Youths" in the parking lot.
