It does and has cost the city dearly in massive payouts... innocent person... perhaps deaf... not doing what office thinks he/she should be doing...

The reaching to pull up pants or for cell or for I.D... has been enough to be shot dead...

The bar massacre in California where the first responding deputy was shot and killed was friendly fire from CHP officer...

yes but per reports it was not an 'aimed at him' shot.

In your comments to me,,, yes being shot at counts. And you have not.

Doesn't mean your opinion doesn't count. Just means when you make a statement regarding the proper way for someone to act/react it lacks some credibility.

As others have said, train, train, train. Realistically train. If properly trained your reactions will be more methodical withou distracting thoughts of fast/slow. Then it becomes obvious that slow is not smooth, it's deadly, to you.

My comments were directed towards you.

Thank you for knowing me so well.

Opinions are like buttholes, you and I both have them.

You don't get it, when you try to be fast, you make mistakes.

The video you posted contradicts your last sentence.

Same here, again while I was on dispatch. homeowner heard a guy outside, saw him in homeowners truck, perp drives away, homeowner fires shots. Fall-out: Homeowner had just gotten his carry permit. No charges filed but the undersheriff gave him a very stern lecture about the law.

A few years ago in a rural NC county, a man saw another guy stealing his car. The owner went out side and shot the thief dead. Based on the description in the news, which usually leaves much to be desired, I thought the owner would be charged and convicted. The local DA said there was no point in charging because he would not be able to get a conviction.

Flip side, back around 1990ish in South FLA, a man came home and found a thief stealing his TV set. The thief ran out the back of the house with the TV and the owner shot him. FLA law at the time said this was a legal use of Deadly Force. However, the local DA charged the man. :confused3: Jury acquitted the own but that was one expensive TV said after the legal fees were paid. An officer close to the investigation said the handgun was a piece of junk and would not hit where aimed. It would fire left or right and it was just dumb luck the TV owner hit the thief. Course now a days, I can go to the dump and pick one of those old tube TVs up for free...

Later,
Dan

Where痴 this video/article?

Start watching Active Self Protection (ASP) on Youtube. John has hundreds of live feed videos of deadly encounters. I am not saying he is the expert on what happened or should have happened, or that this is in any way training for folks watching. Just watch the videos to see just how fast people get stabbed, shot, mauled. You have very little time to react from ambush....and if you are being attacked it is almost always from ambush.

Not certain how, as it really dosen't apply.

You can get yourself killed many ways, NOT thinking would probably be high on the list. The best tool we have for a weapon is our brain.

I know you aren't certain.

I am a very good pistol shot. I lost a competition because I got flustered. The targets were not moving, and were not shooting back. I would have aced that scenario in practice but failed to perform when it mattered.

Sometimes **** happens....and in the real world it will get you killed.

I scored in the top 3% at the Front Sight academy. But I know I am not as good as I need to be. It gives me a great excuse to put more rounds downrange.

I know a guy who is a long-time gun fanatic and a long-time braggart about what a great shot he is. You cannot have any meal, or do any social activity around him, where he doesn't steer the conversation back to guns, guns, and more guns.

His favorite saying was: "If someone breaks into my house, my biggest decision will be whether to put the .45acp round through his left kneecap or his right."

He went to Front Sight training in Pahrump, NV. After four days of shooting, I had dinner with him and asked what he learned. He said: "if anyone breaks into my house, I will retreat to a rear bedroom with my gun in hand, and call 9-1-1 for help.

I didn't believe him when he said that. I don't believe him now. But it was an example of the value of training-- even outside the range.

^^^^^
That's one reason why I don't carry for protection. I live in one of the most crime free states in the nation. If that ever changes I will go through training. I can shoot targets as well as the next person, but while doing so I know that I have a safe backstop and they aren't shooting back.
