I wondered about that scenario. The parts catalog lists those keepers as "collet, valve spring." If it swallowed a valve that would seriously damage the head, piston, and maybe the bore, crank, connecting rod, and bearings. Maybe even crack or bend the block. But would that blow out the block heater without the hoses blowing first? This would seem a pretty rare failure if that's what happened."sleeves" ... what we call 'keepers'(?) .. the little 'split sleeves' that lock valves into spring 'retainers'. ...
