You're more than welcome Mate... did you know that next year, the World Fly Fishing Championships is being held here in Tassie! The international body that runs it were here last month and heartily approved all of the venues.

I don't understand why people fish for them. I just hang a couple of those sticky paper rolls and they cover them up in a few days.

Lots of people use the same username on many forums. You can be sure that all even similar usernames are "examined" by both human as well as non-human routines, and all sorts of things put together (whether factual or not).

I never use the same or similar more than one place.

So, I am 33. Not sure how old the rest of the folks here are. The not listing location is a thing for a very good reason sometimes. Although I gladly show my location, I do not have any type of social media. By choice. Things that identify you on the internet are not always good and in general, the less personal info given, the better.

The term to search for is called “doxxing”.

Doxxing Can Ruin Your life. Here's How (You Can Avoid It)

Now, seeing how the web has changed over the last decade or so... Can any of us really predict what things will happen in the next decade or two from now? How will the personal information you share affect your ability to get a job? What if your post history gets called into consideration before being allowed to purchase a firearm? What if any information available in any public source that can be linked to you in any way could be considered by a lender before giving a mortgage?

Things to think about maybe.

OK, how does one get that job? "Hello, we're here from the World Fly Fishing Championships to inspect the venues. We'll need you to tell us where all the good fishing spots are, and provide us with appropriate tackle. Then leave us alone for a few days while we conduct our 'inspection.' We'll also need to assess your beer production to make sure that quality and quantity are up to international standards. Snacks verification is done by a separate team."

Why would you care where someone lives? Theft is the only logical reason I can think of and wouldn’t it be a lot easier to scope out a house that you already know where is?

That's a bloody good question. :confused3: I'd reckon that all of the top blokes from around the world would know each other... unless they're habitual liars? (Honestly, what are the chances that fishermen are collective liars, eh?)

Beer (Boag's/Cascade/Micro-breweries) and wine wouldn't be a prob. Nosh & nibblies could be easily provided by the local bakery/pie shop. The competition will probably be based out of Cressy. Longford's not far off either.

I'm wondering what they're going to judge the competition on? Best cast? Artistic rhythm? Tied fly? :scratchchin:

I'm boggled.

Changing Times......

Back When...... Small Town - everybody knew everybody else's business. Govt and Big Biz were "away", and considered outsiders, and not to be trusted......

Now........... Cities, 'nuff said. Even in Small Towns - people often don't know their neighbours, and Govt and and Big Biz knows more about individuals, than the individual under the microscope does.....

Now...... Govt and Big Biz are trusted even less..... good to see some traditions remain alive !

I've had many different types of fish in my lake. Trout, salmon, bass, gold fish. The gold fish were eliminated with Toxaphene. My dad was a fish biologist with the Game Dept and, fortunately, had access to the product. Salmonids( trout & salmon will not reproduce in a lake - they need a stream to lay eggs). However, for 50 years we leased the property to two Dr's who would keep the lake stocked with trout. They grew to monstrous sizes.

Now - it's bass. They do reproduce in lakes. Besides - to keep the lake stocked with trout is more than I want to spend. There is no longer a local private hatchery where trout can be purchased. Now, there is a lot of paperwork & approvals plus finding a hatchery and arranging transportation.

About every three to five years I perform a "stock reduction program". The population of bass can get so large - the bass begin to "stunt". String out my 100' monofilament gill net and provide a bonanza for local wildlife. Even though, I would imagine, the coyotes seldom encounter a bass - they dig right in. It's a free for all - hawks, eagles, raccoons, coyotes, ravens, crows et al. Normally I will make three "sets". The total haul will be gone in about 4-5 days.

Years ago we used some of the bass as fertilizer around the wife's rose bushes. Mistake, the coons would dig them up and seriously damaged several rose bushes.

I was scheduled to be a judge for the Rocky Mountain region finals in 2004. I couldn't make it due to last minute obligations.

The area is selected by officials of the organization. That year, 3 rivers were selected. Each river was divided into sections. Each fisherman was assigned the section they would fish by a drawing. There was a morning session and afternoon session. Each day, each fisherman was assigned a different river for morning and afternoon sessions. A judge was assigned to a different fisherman each session.

The judge kept a tally, measurements, approved flies (no barbed hooks or double rigged flies) and ensured the fish was successfully released.
