My dually has a crack that goes from driver to mid windshield.
Before just going to my Safelite dealer - are all replacements about the same? There are a lot of repair shops around and I don't trust the answers.

I'm with you on the trust issue. I'm sure there are differences in price/quality. For example, on my beater 1994 F150 I had the windshield replaced two years ago after hitting a buzzard. I went with one of those low ball internet come to your home installers. During the course of the replacement I started chatting up the installer. He was a really nice young man; although well tattooed, pierced and hairy (can't tell a book by it's cover); and I asked him how much he personally makes on the $150 install? He said $50! I said wow, how much does your boss make? He said the glass only costs $27.50!!! Boss gets the rest. I'm sure that I have the cheapest quality glass on the market, but it keeps the wipers off my lap.

I had Safelite replace the glass for my F250. The graphics....little dots in a pattern....at the top around the mirror weren't as clean as the Ford glass but other than that it was fine

It stopped the wind and rain from hitting my face

I have always gone with Safelite. State Farm has always picked up the full tab. Besides - Safelite will come out here and do the job right at my place.

Now - it very likely would be different this time of year. I might have to go to Safelite so they could get an acceptable "DO" on the instal. It's 20F right now and heading down as we approach sunrise.

I have 2 buddies that have worked in the auto glass business for 20-25+ years, so I'm able to get glass from one for about $150, the other guy has always been happy to put them in for me for trade, we help each other out as needed type deal.

Another friend has Safelite do the windshield in his F350, cost was quite reasonable, as was service quality, was about $250 installed at his location, removed old glass one day, came back 2 days later after we cleaned rust out of the windshield channel and painted it before new glass went in. If I didnt have my connections, Id use Safelite myself.

I would not worry as much about the quality of the glass as I would about the quality of service of the installer. I have had replacement windshields leak and been unable to get them properly replaced or repaired without charge. Choose a reputable company instead of a fly-by-nighter.

Man, I could use a new windsheild, mine being all sand blasted!

I think it's not easy to make a windsheild. And not something you can make cheap and for all the different applications. So my guess, is aside from quality of labor, the actual products are probably all about the same.

SafeLite is usually not the cheapest by a long shot, they spend a lot of money on advertising. I went with a local reputable company here. They came to my wife's work and did the whole thing. They were about $200 cheaper than SafeLite.

My local State Farm agent recommended SafeLite. So..... they must have something going on together. Really hard to beat $0 for a new windshield.

Ive had numerous windshields replaced here in the desert as they only last about 2 years due to sandblast. My insurer uses Safelite and they always install OEM for my $100 deductable.
