They don't have it wrong, but HP is still what does the work. Having more torque just means the HP is accessible at a lower RPM, which is nice for calmer driving, engine longevity, and fuel consumption, among other reasons. Diesel engines lend themselves to power at lower RPM, which means high torque figures. But truck fleet operators don't choose diesel engines for the torque rating.
Actually Torque does work, HP is just a theoretical figure on how fast the work can be done. Torque is measured, HP is calculated.

What I like about the new GM trucks, is they are just plain. They "look" like just a truck. The interior is blain, and nurtural. The radio is very basic and simple. None of the technical mumbo jumbo, like the RAM or Ford. Just a simple plain radio. And the radio sound system is very basic. Ford and RAM put speakers EVERYWHERE, where GM just puts a few. Why have so many speakers? The dash is also VERY basic, when compared to RAM and Ford. GM, realizes the "general" driver doesn't care about wiz bang dash. RAM and Ford, they went way overkill on the dash, just too much info and adjustment options.

This is in the high trim levels.

Then, we have the mechanicals. GM is NOT playing the power game. They are keeping the numbers realistic. Who NEEDS 1000# of torque? That is just insane. And GM keeps its tow ratings very low, that is good.

GM top level trim trucks are, well, very basic and simple when compared to Ford and RAM. Its kinda old school. Considering its mostly older men that buy large HD trucks, GM is the way to go. Its like owning an old simple flip phone. So, an older person can feel comfortable driving.

I found your post rather odd... First of all, higher trim levels in a Silverado are just as nice as anyones, but I agree, lower trim levels are more basic, which I like. They come with a basic radio, but the higher trim offer anything any one else has, full carpet, more speakers, wireless charging on the console, full nav system, back up camera, ect. ect..

One thing I will say, the radio/screen is MUCH less cluttered on the GM, compared to ford or ram... BUT, I think ford and ram can be bought in lower trim levels too, you just don't see them much...

As for torque, the GM diesel has over 900 pounds torque, near 1000 pounds, so I'm lost on your post.

BTW, I really like my new Silverado and it does have the lower trim level that I like...

Diesels, four strikes in particular can not rev because the cam duration is so short .

Diesel's have a lower RPM because the pistons have a longer stroke. The speed the piston travels is still equivalent to higher revving shorter stroke engines. The longer stroke increases the output torque by taking advantage of the combustion characteristics of diesel fuel.

I realize aesthetics are subjective but go look at the interiors of a RAM and a Ford pickup and then back to a GM pickup and see if you still think GM's pickup interiors are as nice as RAM or Ford. GM isn't playing their best game when it comes to interior and hasn't for sometime.

Exactly, the 2019 Chevrolet 3500 Diesel has 445HP, 910# of torque and a max GCWR of 31100# (per: Silverado 35HD for Sale: 219 Silverado 35HD Pricing | Chevrolet ) vs Ford's 450HP, 935# of torque and 40,000GCWR (per: 219 Ford(R) Super Duty Truck | Powerful Features | Ford.com ) and Ram's 385HP, 930# of torque and 39,100# GCWR (per: 218 Ram Trucks 35 - Powertrain Engines ).

My brother has a NEW Ram, My buddy has a NEW Ford and I have a NEW Chevy, so I not only have looked at all three, I've spent time in all three...

I just don't knowing what you are, or aren't seeing? Given the same trim levels, all three are similar inside...

BTW, right now I own all three brands of trucks, so I've been living with all three brands for quite a while...

You got a favorite?

You got a favorite?
Yes, the brand that has given me "by far" the least problems as they get older...

Your first clue is, it says Silverado on it...

Don't even get me started on the other two money pits!!

In my rural farming/ranching community HD trucks earn their spot in the driveway. It' Dodge, then Ford very close behind, then a gigantic leap to GM third.

It seems the chassis is what separates GM.
