Rotary Cutter Suggestions For a B2650

I would definitely go with a 5'. When mowing with a tractor I have always found that wider and slower is the best. Your back and kidneys will thank you. In thick stuff you either slow down or take a smaller cut. With a narrower mower there is only so fast you can go and you can't cut any wider.

My 5' Howse cost less than $1000 six or seven years ago and has survived plenty of abuse. With 16 PTO hp I have never had a problem.

My tractor is 24 hp. Can't remember what it is rated at the PTO. I have a 5 foot TSC mower. It had no problem with waist high weeds or even a bit taller than that. In that mess I could go as fast as I wanted and not bog down as long it was not wet. Now that I am mowing just horse pasture I wish I had a 6 foot to be honest. I can go as fast as my kidneys will allow and take a full cut with not issues.

the TSC mower is fine for my 18 acres of pasture. I have taken down some 2 inch saplings with it. Pushed them over with the bucket and slow and easy drove over them and let the mower shred them. I would NOT want to do a ton of those with the mower, but since I am now mowing regularly they won't be back.

I dunno, as slow as I need to go due to rough ground as well as having to trim around some trees and rock outcroppings I feel cutting only a 3 1/2 swath has to take longer than 4 1/2?

Thanks Art, if you wouldn稚 recommend anything heavier l?ll cross off the 1860.
You are mowing yearly so the growth would not be over one inch so why go heavier.

Good question, Art. I suppose it's only that a slightly heavier duty RC will be less stressed and last longer? LOL in reality it's really a non-issue as any of them'll likely outlast me! I should probably focus more on cut quality.

You can get by with the power you have with a 5 foot unit. . You should watch your weight. I would to try to stay close to 500#. The more HD units can be hundreds of pounds heavier and will put you in the case of "The tail wagging the dog".

I was leaning toward LP RCR 1860 with its high tip speed and heavier gauge build over the 1260 (which was a problem for the person who left a review here on TBN) but it weighs right at 600#.

Have you considered a Woods? I love mine. Very built and solid cutter. Maybe a BB48X?

I wouldn't be opposed to Woods they make good implements, my rear blade is Woods. Want a 5' that weighs no more than 600 pounds though. I'll look on their website, not aware of any place close by that sells them. Might even reconsider a flail.

I run a 5' with my 2400. Does ok on normal grasses. If I get into a thick spot, just move over and don't cut a whole swath. Or if the whole thing is big just drop a gear. Main thing is to keep the rpms at rated hp to keep the "energy" in the blade.....mass x motion. My size tractor is normally sold with a 4' mower but 4' doesn't cover your tire tracks. I'd rather slow down, or move over rather than have my tires smash what I'm fixin to cut.
