A user on these forums "Bigpuddie" has a 4707, he loves it, you may want to PM him for more feedback.

Thank you, I his posts are one thing that helped me make the decision. And the fact that the 4yr old Deere 5075e that was brought out died on me after being in the shop for a month. It threw some codes, wouldn’t shift on the fly without cutting off and just was a little rougher than the MF that I demo’d. I had thought I wanted the JD..but not after that experience. Also 4707 has more options like the M yet a bit cheaper than the M.

Get the 4707 and dont look back. Fantastic machine. Very comfortable and capable. Get a nice heavy grapple, a good quality rotary mower, and a heavy rear blade or box blade. Woods makes good stuff and there is a $400 rebate if bought at time if tractor purchace. Rhino makes excellent rotary mowers. You will need a 14k or 16k trailer. 20190113_164723.jpeg20181203_140453.jpeg20181026_114133.jpeg20181026_120043.jpeg20181025_085143.jpeg

1. Trailering - that trailer is probably going to weigh 4000 lbs itself, be sure to check. Like I said it adds up quick!

2. A Tractor is not a SS. If you go pushing on trees like you can with a SS, you are likely going to bend the FEL arms. As you know, SS arms are reinforced by the frame when in the fully down position, giving incredible strength. Tractors with a FEL do not have this support.

3. I grew up in TX, still have 100 acre family hay/cattle farm in Athens. I know cedars all too well, I just havent pushed them over with tractors :)

4. Forestry mulcher - you may be able to get bulletproof or comparable glass installed, it will just cost more. I am not sure. I know for SS mulchers, they require special glass for the mulcher models. Not sure on the land shark, but a well made bush hog on a 4707 should cut some serious growth. Some rotary cutters can work on 4" saplings...that is some serious cutting!

5. Ouch on the auger, any chance you can rent one? Assuming you dont want to go into the fencing business :)

6. Baling - good, it is expensive. Get ready for a new tractor and some serious equipment investments if so. Another option popular in TX is baling on the halves. You let a larger operation bale it, they take 1/2 and leave you 1/2 of the bales. You could either sell them or use to feed as needed.

7. More tractor IF you are planning on baling/haying is what I meant. The 4707 seems great for 60 acres for everything but baling.

8. Keep in mind if you are mowing, you are not going to want to mow 50 acres with a bush hog. It will take you days. You may want something with more width (multi spindle, batwing, etc). We used what I called "weed slingers" that was a gearbox tied to the blade and wheels. It was a pull behind. Wheels turned, blades turned. We use this for field mowing when not haying. Not sure what others use today.

Thanks on all points. I was going to get a bolt on blade and push stuff over with the bucket but I don稚 want to bend the forks on a new $45000 tractor.

The area in Arkansas has lots of farms and cows not so many horse ranches so looks like baling would be a break even with the extra costs. Now here in Texas I could make good money from selling alfalfa, just to far to transport from Arkansas.

It does take a few fulls days on the old tractor to mow but that old tractor is scary. A batwing 12 foot would be good.

So far no one recommends the smaller 1760m. So I guess I need to deal with the PITA to move it back and forth. I will just have to be careful in the trees. How are your lights at night? Do you think you need LEDS. Are the wheel weights something you can take on and off easy, it does not look feasible. What was the production date for the steering issue, the one I was looking had a date of 3-18.

Not positive on the exact production date window, but you may be ok. The lights are very good. Weights not an easy on and off. As for the 1760, it's a great machine, but you said you would be ripping up cedars and rocks, and cutting in driveways. I just dont think the 1760 would be heavy enough. If you were just maintaining roads, its would be just fine. If you are really concerned about weight, a Kubota m7060, Case 75c, and New Holland Powerstar 75 would be lighter and more agile and all good machines to consider. The Kubota has the least desirable emissions with its DPF and the orange paint fades quickly if left outside. The 4707 will really shine doing field work and whenever its heft is really needed. It also has the most comfortable cab by far, followed by Case/NH.

You need a utility tractor if you live on a farm, moving hay alone takes a tractor of this size to do it comfortably. You have a bunch of field mowing ahead of you as well. If you want to forget about haying or a mowing 60 acres in a reasonable amount of time, then you can consider a smaller machine. However to me once you finish with the TX clearing the geared shuttle will be the best choice.

Thanks guys, I will think about getting a skid steer on tracks used at some point with a front bush hog to get into tight places in the trees. That will offset the bigger tractor. With the extra cost of the trailer I will have to wait on the batwing. I am thinking about tinting the windows for UV protection.

I know this is slightly off topic, but just curious your opinions, Insurance yes or no on new tractor? If yes, besides agco, who else? My insurance co doesn’t provide.
I realize it people have different opinions, just would like them. I grew up driving tractors & am pretty conservative/careful while operating. Will use for typical things- mainly bushhogging & mowing/some log moving/brush clean up/dirt moving. (Getting 4707 w/ cab).

I decided to make a new post but any thoughts here would still be appreciated. Thanks

I changed my homeowner's insurance to a farm policy with inland marine coverage. It covers the tractor and implements both on and off premises for both comprehensive and liability. My insurance went up $460/yr. Including glass coverage.
