Amsoil HD 5W40?

I guess I'll have read up on Amsoils site to see their test proving lab tests. Must be really good to go 25,000 miles between changes. Since I don't drive a lot of miles and you are correct I could get 5-6 years between changes.
I went 4 years on the 99 7.3L PSD with annual Blackstone oil samples. I changed it at 4 years and 18,000 miles because I started feeling dirty...

I couldn't get that. I change my oil and filters once a year regardless of miles driven or run time hours on engine powered equipment.

I change it annually regardless of hours because of moisture and other contaminants a tractor gets with normal use (my normal use)

Did you ever send a sample out, you may not have a moisture problem?

Obviously you all can do as you as you wish, but I bet that most people never test and just toss out perfectly good oil because it's what their grandfather and their father taught them. It feels like it needs done, so it must need done.

I ran 4 years with the 7.3 diesel and sent in a sample each spring. On the 4th year the Blackstone results still came back totally fine, the total base number (combined additive package) had finally dropped to almost the level of new conventional retail shelf oil.... So I changed it even though it still checked out a little better than any new conventional oil just because it felt like 4 years was long enough. I felt that I won the bet. $200 for 4 years included the oil/filter/3 tests.

Nope, never have sent in samples. With none of my diesel engines taking more than two gallons, and two of them taking less than one gallon, it seems like a waste to spend money on a test when I could spend the same money on fresh oil. I forget how much I spent on T6 this year, but I think it was $15 per gallon. Right now, without Rotella's rebates it's $19.50. That makes it too easy to just swap out the oil for me.

A 7.3 holds 15 quarts, or 3.75 gallons. Don't know how your getting your samples but that will need to be replenished (3 to 4 oz). Assuming used the same filter for 4 years comes to $302

4 gal @ $40 = $160
4 Blackstone lab @ $28 = $112
Amsoil filter about $30

Oil change at 7500 = 2.4 changes (18000) = $150.50 T4 and $231.50 T6
Wix 51734 filter $15 = $33.50
Rotella T4 $13 gal x9 (3.75x2.4) = $117
Rotella T6 $22 gal x9 = $198

There would be more labor

Agree. I've been changing oil on dozens of vehicles, big delivery trucks, tractors, 60kw generators, vans, cars, hummers, mercedes, tractors and everything else that needs oil. I've never spent a dime on sending in samples and many vehicles have gone over 200k and most in dusty 125 degree desert temps. It's a waste of money.

Why? Because I follow what the manufacturer recommends in their Owner Manual along with Ford850 stated, rather than what some people on an internet blog site think I should do. ;)

I use Amsoil oil and grease for all my vehicles and toys. I was doing the oil samples years ago, I still have some kits left, on a new vehicle after the first oil change I would do a sample, it is pretty cool how they break down the oil. I used Blackstone labs too.
