Amsoil HD 5W40?

I use Amsoil in all my stuff, have it delivered direct. I would have to agree, doing an oil analysis is the best way to define your own needs. I prefer Wix filters and change them at the halfway point (if oil is 20000, new filter and top off at 10000). Our Honda Ridgeline has an oil percent usage indicator that the dealer people swear its the way to decide change interval. But it has turned to 0 at 7500 miles twice now, pretty sure the magic percent indicator is mileage based not usage.

I have no opinion on Amsoil. Great hype, but are they better than Rotella? I don't know. But what I do know is that PureOne filters have almost twice the actual filtering of Wix, and much better seals. Same price, much better filter. BTW, Fram was rated bottom of the heap.

Yes, AMSOIL is much better and the lab tests are available online. It isn't hype.
Most people never debate the quality of AMSOIL because there is so much easily available proof it is a superior product. The only real debate is the price and if you are willing to pay more for a better product or not.

IMO Amsoil would be used much more if it wasn't done as teared direct selling type market. There is all those other hands taking a cut of the profits.

It doesn't go through any more hands than Rotella. Walmart or Tractor Supply also adds cost to the product. They are just marking up a cheaper product. If that is your only concern you can contact me to get set up as a preferred customer at no cost to you and buy direct at wholesale pricing. You can't buy other oils direct from the manufacturer and get them shipped to your door for free.

As before I use to sell the stuff and when I was in (the 80's), even had the bypass filter installed on my truck. It's a teared marketing setup, or the dreaded word pyramid (not really a full pyramid). You make more money by how many people are below you, and how much you and they sell.

So if it was just sold like Rotella and such, it "could" be much less

Also as before, I like the stuff but don't use it because I have never had a failure do to the failure of any other lubricate I've ever used. Its just not cost effective for me

Agree. I've been changing oil on dozens of vehicles, big delivery trucks, tractors, 60kw generators, vans, cars, hummers, mercedes, tractors and everything else that needs oil. I've never spent a dime on sending in samples and many vehicles have gone over 200k and most in dusty 125 degree desert temps. It's a waste of money.

"It's a waste of money"
Not always!
I bought a boat with twin diesels, and even though they were low time, I did oil samples.

A few years ago I noticed that the per quart price for Amsoil Signature Series is about the same as Mobil 1 and quite a bit cheaper than Royal Purple and Red Line. On occasion, Mobil 1 can be found at a good sale price, but I've long ago lost interest in spending my weekends shopping. So with the convenience of ordering online, I've found a lot of value in Amsoil. And their lower teir'ed oils are also very competitive. The OE and Boosted lines are competitive with dino oil. Been using that in all of our cars.

PC or dealer pricing on there oils is much more competitive than they once were. Not only that, but Amosil has been supporting the retail markets as well.

I was a regular Amsoil user. I just recently jumped off the bandwagon. Its good stuff but is it that good. I was changing my oil once a year in everything. I've decided to go by indicator in my vehicles instead, which is usually a little less than a year. I'm also going with Castrol full synthetic. I do have a lot of Amsoil product left and will use it up.

I have a post below asking about the best gas engine oil. I was looking for real data on oils since I won't be using the Amsoil anymore. I didn't find a lot. Years ago I found some good data on oils but they change the blends and I don't feel the old data is good any more. I'm also of the camp unless your engine holds a lot of oil, its not worth the money to send in oil samples.

I can answer that. I always used Amsoilbut the "hype" of Rotella broke me down. I switched and put some in my Kubota and my tracor has never run so terrible. Louder, more vibration loud knocking sound at startup until warm. Dumped that Rotella out after two weeks put in Amsoil and all is back to normal. Quiet, smooth, no knocking at start up. NEVER AGAIN.
