tilt bed trailer

What kind of tilt deck? If it's a gravity tilt, they pivot right "between the rear axles"

Not sure what kind of trailer you have Fallon but my tilt bed trailer has the pivot point about 2 feet behind the rear axle. Mine has an 8 foot fixed deck in front with 15+ foot tilting rear deck.

My old 16' & all the gravity tilts I looked at pivoted dead center between the axles. The ones with a small fixed deck in front of the tilting deck looked like they would balance better, but still had a fair amount of deck behind the axle compared to a standard fixed deck trailer. I looked at Diamond C, Big Tex & several others. Every gravity tilt I saw pivoted between the 2 axles.

I was looking at tilting decks with a small fixed front deck originally to replace the 16'. Lack of fenders & the ability to load non-tractor things from the side sent me to a deckover power tilt.

My 16' was way too short. I'm assuming it was for a skidsteer, but it was even pretty short for that. 14k of axle & a steel deck. The only way I could balance it was with the loader on the thankfully really long tongue.

I have to agree with bitternut, my 20' tilt pivots behind the rear axle. Seems to me, pivoting between the axle's would require the bed to be higher to clear the axle.

I also have a 20' tilt. Loading it is a pretty simple task..I drive up whatever I'm loading and watch the back of the truck that's pulling it, once it drops a few inches, it's good to go.

Bingo!
I had a 20' tilt trailer for 15 years hauling dozens of different tractors and vehicles on it. When I was loading it I would let the hitch drop about 2" and it would tow perfectly every time.

Situations like this are where I like having the built in scale on a Weigh Safe hitch. I use it when loading my Bobcat S185.

I have a 24' quality brand 8' fixed 16' tilt and I have no problem loading a tractor with loaded tires and mower on back - I leave the loader on when we mow so there is weight up front . when loaded and ready for transport mower hangs off the back by a foot or 2 . the problem your talking about happens when you try to load a car or truck on the front tires go past pivot point - before rears come on trailer - to load a car or truck I put ramps or boards down on back of the trailer to drive onto which holds the trailer down till the tires are on it . I have not found a trailer that does everything easy - I hate dealing with ramps so the tilt is whats best for me
