What kind of tilt deck? If it's a gravity tilt, they pivot right "between the rear axles"
Not sure what kind of trailer you have Fallon but my tilt bed trailer has the pivot point about 2 feet behind the rear axle. Mine has an 8 foot fixed deck in front with 15+ foot tilting rear deck.
My old 16' & all the gravity tilts I looked at pivoted dead center between the axles. The ones with a small fixed deck in front of the tilting deck looked like they would balance better, but still had a fair amount of deck behind the axle compared to a standard fixed deck trailer. I looked at Diamond C, Big Tex & several others. Every gravity tilt I saw pivoted between the 2 axles.
I was looking at tilting decks with a small fixed front deck originally to replace the 16'. Lack of fenders & the ability to load non-tractor things from the side sent me to a deckover power tilt.
My 16' was way too short. I'm assuming it was for a skidsteer, but it was even pretty short for that. 14k of axle & a steel deck. The only way I could balance it was with the loader on the thankfully really long tongue.
