Big snowstorm here this morning. Schools, Universities closed. Freezing rain and ice pellets coming later.

Up North at the cottage, even worse. Looks like snow will be a foot or more, and then more tomorrow and Friday. Supposed to head up there Friday afternoon, but may not make it. Gall Bladder surgery today.

RNG, when your fingers get cold and don't want to work right, stuff your hands into your armpits. The added body heat will warm them up quickly.

Also recommended is one of the new generation battery hand warmers, like the zippo heat banks Hand Warmers | Zippo.com You can recharge your phone from them too.

I don't have the zippo one, but I've had a "HotRox" equivalent for a couple of years. Using an on/off switch is so much easier and comfortable than the old charcoal stick hand warmers. It lasts me several hours, some of the more expensive zippo models claim up to 6 hours.

3 degrees this morning with a clear blue sky. It's the calm before the storm...supposed to get hit hard tomorrow. I already cleared my road yesterday so I think today I'll ride around some on the snowmobile, check out the foothills above my house. :)

Good morning to all! Low went to 28, high today going up to 56. The wind howled until sometime after midnight. I think it pushed all the moisture towards the East.....sorry guys, looks like your going to get dumped on...

Drew, sounds like you had perfect timing getting those plants in the ground. Here's hoping for a nice gentle rainfall:thumbsup:

RNG, hope you get all the bugs out of the opener and it works faithfully! Next up...getting those gremlins out of the vanagon!

Don, thinking back to around 25 years ago also, I think topping a lawn was done with composted steer manure or mushroom soil.

Jay, still sending out +thoughts for your friend and also you!

Today's agenda ....?? This afternoon going to try something new on the smoker...(Don, don't read this)...A top of the round (AKA- London Broil) Its been marinating for the last 24 hours. We'll see how it turns out.

Everyone have a great day! Prayers sent for all those needing or not!

Good morning! 45 ˚F this am heading to 60 ˚F clear, wind from the North a cool down tonight to 34˚F and then the wind from the South tomorrow and up to 65 ˚F.
A "Leave no trace" hiking class this morning and then a free afternoon that I bet the trail blazers will take advantage of.

The cut seed Potatoes dusted with sulphur are hardening and are almost ready to plant.

A lot of the neighbors are getting their landscaping companies to aerate and top dress their yard and the machines makes a lot of noise which might be upsetting Whipper, she seems better today, prancing around. I think a combination of the extra noises and the rains cutting into her walk time might have been the problem and then one day without drops did not help.

Rick, what do you use to top dress your yard? I need to do mine next week. I haven't had a real yard with turf grass for 25 years.

"Rick, what do you use to top dress your yard? "

Don, we use a service, at our house in Richmond, to aerate and do compost top dressing twice per year. The compost they use is from Living Earth. They also come on a regular schedule to fertilize, apply pre-emergent herbicide, etc. They use Nitro-Pho's products and follow Randy Lemmon's schedule. Using their services makes better use of my time. We'll probably aerat only once this year.

Randy Lemmon

Lots of good information on Randy's website.

At the ranch, we don't have any good local bulk compost suppliers. I use what I make and augment that with good quality "bagged" products. Usually that's Living Earth Compost in bags from their yard in Katy.
