RNG which Garmin to you have, and which program do you use to download the maps? I have an account on GPSpower might be able to some tips..

I've been wrestling with a Zumo 550.

Found the problem with the map transfer yesterday. Turns out that the last so called "update" to the BaseCamp mapping software also included an "update" to MapInstall, the program I've been using for the transfers. There's a bug in that version of MapInstall that limits the map file size to just over 2 Gb. It fails with anything larger, and the latest edition of North America Maps is way past 3 Gb. I was able to find the previous version of MapInstall (but not at the Garmin web site), and finally get the maps on the Zumo updated.

Just another example of Garmin falling down on the job. Now I'm more interested than ever about mapping software for the iPhone, and figuring out how to mount one to the handlebars and protect it from the weather. Be nice to get one with a bigger screen, too.

RNG, I use Garmin Express to download maps. Available for PC and Mac. Which Garmin GPS are you using.

I did try the latest version of Express for the Mac, too, but it wouldn't even "see" the SD card that will hold the maps. Makes me wonder if anybody at Garmin even uses their own software...

good morning all. Almost feel guilty announcing it's going to 68 here today
with all you getting socked with snow. Almost. ;)

We got about 3/4 inch of rain yesterday, might get another shower tonight but a nice gentle rain that
I'm sure is making all those seedlings happy.

Headed to dentist this morning, not looking forward to that, know I have a filling, it's the drilling I'm really worried about
with my tinnitus. It amplifies and distorts everything and wondering what that vibration is going to feel like in my head.
I'm going to suggest he does not dally in there....
Can't wait, sort of..., to get to ENT next week.

Toppop, you going to do anything special with that crate engine for your Monte Carlo? 350hp is a lot compared to what it came with.
Real question is, which mufflers...what kind of rumble do you want.

Jay, sorry you lost your special friend.

Drew, not touching the motor, they are very strong as is, running Magnaflow 2.5 “ dual exhaust.
Getting the lowering springs and shocks installed today, dropped it off last night.

Good Morning!!!! 37F @ 4:00AM. Cloudy this morning with showers during the afternoon. High 47F. Winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50%.

Ran a couple more tests on the Vanagon yesterday after receiving some online coaching, but the gremlin is being elusive. Hope to get a couple more parts in later this week that may shed some light.

The replacement gate opener finally came yesterday, so I swapped it out for the broken one. My fingers don't like this cool weather (I was gonna say cold, but it's not compared to the rest of the country) and they were numb by the time I was finishing up. It made poking all those little wires into the holes in the terminal strip "fun". I re-used the old antenna, and that was probably a mistake. The remote control now won't work any farther than about 5' away, so today I'll take it back apart and put the new antenna on. :confused2: I hope that's the problem, but it's really no use the way it is.

Hope everyone stays safe and has a good 'un!

30F and freezing rain right now. Low was 28. About 1/2” of snow/sleet last night before rain started. Supposed to be high of 37 with rain all day. The birds at the feeders are eating like there will not be another meal!
Sorry to hear of the loss of your good friend Jay. People like that are hard to find and impossible to replace ...

Good morning! 45 ˚F this am heading to 60 ˚F clear, wind from the North a cool down tonight to 34˚F and then the wind from the South tomorrow and up to 65 ˚F.
A "Leave no trace" hiking class this morning and then a free afternoon that I bet the trail blazers will take advantage of.

The cut seed Potatoes dusted with sulphur are hardening and are almost ready to plant.

A lot of the neighbors are getting their landscaping companies to aerate and top dress their yard and the machines makes a lot of noise which might be upsetting Whipper, she seems better today, prancing around. I think a combination of the extra noises and the rains cutting into her walk time might have been the problem and then one day without drops did not help.

Rick, what do you use to top dress your yard? I need to do mine next week. I haven't had a real yard with turf grass for 25 years.

RNG, when your fingers get cold and don't want to work right, stuff your hands into your armpits. The added body heat will warm them up quickly.

The last time I top dressed my lawn, I did it with 5 year old pony poop.

Big snowstorm here this morning. Schools, Universities closed. Freezing rain and ice pellets coming later.

Up North at the cottage, even worse. Looks like snow will be a foot or more, and then more tomorrow and Friday. Supposed to head up there Friday afternoon, but may not make it. Gall Bladder surgery today.

Also recommended is one of the new generation battery hand warmers, like the zippo heat banks Hand Warmers | Zippo.com You can recharge your phone from them too.

I don't have the zippo one, but I've had a "HotRox" equivalent for a couple of years. Using an on/off switch is so much easier and comfortable than the old charcoal stick hand warmers. It lasts me several hours, some of the more expensive zippo models claim up to 6 hours.

3 degrees this morning with a clear blue sky. It's the calm before the storm...supposed to get hit hard tomorrow. I already cleared my road yesterday so I think today I'll ride around some on the snowmobile, check out the foothills above my house. :)

I might have to get mine out soon. Some say I have a lot of "gall". Let us know how it goes.

Good morning to all! Low went to 28, high today going up to 56. The wind howled until sometime after midnight. I think it pushed all the moisture towards the East.....sorry guys, looks like your going to get dumped on...

Drew, sounds like you had perfect timing getting those plants in the ground. Here's hoping for a nice gentle rainfall:thumbsup:

RNG, hope you get all the bugs out of the opener and it works faithfully! Next up...getting those gremlins out of the vanagon!

Don, thinking back to around 25 years ago also, I think topping a lawn was done with composted steer manure or mushroom soil.

Jay, still sending out +thoughts for your friend and also you!

Today's agenda ....?? This afternoon going to try something new on the smoker...(Don, don't read this)...A top of the round (AKA- London Broil) Its been marinating for the last 24 hours. We'll see how it turns out.

Everyone have a great day! Prayers sent for all those needing or not!

"Rick, what do you use to top dress your yard? "

Don, we use a service, at our house in Richmond, to aerate and do compost top dressing twice per year. The compost they use is from Living Earth. They also come on a regular schedule to fertilize, apply pre-emergent herbicide, etc. They use Nitro-Pho's products and follow Randy Lemmon's schedule. Using their services makes better use of my time. We'll probably aerat only once this year.

Randy Lemmon

Lots of good information on Randy's website.

At the ranch, we don't have any good local bulk compost suppliers. I use what I make and augment that with good quality "bagged" products. Usually that's Living Earth Compost in bags from their yard in Katy.
