Mahindra 2655 50 hour maintenance

I would use a Napa Gold or a Wix if I had the chance. I'm sure the Mahindra one is made by the lowest bidder. There is an auto parts shop near me that previously was a Napa shop but gave them up because of the costs but they have an interchange service that was able to cross the old filter part number to a Wix. I should call them and see if they have the new one in their system yet.

The NAPA Gold 1324 is not a direct cross over to the new, shorter Mahindra filter. Mahindra filters are not listed in the cross over list. It is the same as far as the filter size, gasket size, and thread size, 20 mm x 1.5. The counter man looked at the NAPA filter specs and printed them out, which I posted below. The NAPA filter is made to specific small diesel specs and that is why my brother said to use it. When things warm up in northern Illinois, I'll perform an oil/filter change and install the NAPA filter. I'll post the results.

I'll check into it with the dealer. The larger filter is what they gave me and what I will use until the next scheduled oil change. Changing the filter on a tractor isn't like a dirt bike where I can just lay it on its side and swap the filter without changing all the oil ;)

Thanks for your time writing this up for us. Did you not have fuel filters on your 50 hour maintenance?

No, they are not included until 500 hours. Thanks.

Very helpful, thank you. I will be picking up my 2655 in a week and will be referencing your post when the time comes.

TractorNH, did you read about the NAPA Gold 1324 filter I posted? I'm sure there would be reluctance to use it. My brother owns a diesel repair shop and has over 40 years diesel experience. He said I should try it. He said it's a better filter than what Mahindra sells. Mahle makes Mahindra engine oil filters, but they won't disclose specs on the oil filter. I'm installing the NAPA filter the next oil change. What's your opinion?

Nothing wrong with Mahle filters, BMW uses them. However, I’d use either of the filters recommended by RA simply because they are easier to obtain.

Very good step by step write up.. only thing I do different is only swap the Hyd filter and leave the oil if it looked clean

Hi navyldo. You're right. There is nothing wrong with a Mahle filter. Mahle manufactures some real, good quality engine products. It's just the cost the dealer charges for these. I bought the new engine oil filter Mahindra recommended for the 2555/2655 tractor. The total cost was almost $46.00. I think that's a rip off! Even high priced John Deere filters cost less. I check online and the price was the same. With NAPA, there is not shipping cost and the NAPA store is five miles away, plus I get jobber prices.

Was there a shipping charge included in that too? I paid just under $26 for the new version of the filter from my dealer and he had plenty of them in stock.

Believe me, I would much prefer to use a Napa Gold or Wix and I'm sure they are superior but there are too many unknowns. This conversation re-sparked my interest in trying to track down an alternate filter so I called my local filter guy who can look up and talk to the reps from several manufacturers including Wix, Donaldson, and Amsoil. What each of them told him is the Mahindra filter is a proprietary patented filter and until a filter manufacturer is willing to pay for patent rights to get the detailed info or until the patent runs out they won’t be able to get the necessary info to cross reference it. Could they get one that would thread on and fit? Sure, but they can’t guarantee it will work correctly without knowing the specs on the Mahindra filter. They don’t know how many microns it is or what the designed flow rate is. Is it 5 micron, 10, 15? You could just say get me the filter with the finest level of microns BUT you risk it not being able to flow enough oil which could put the filter into bypass, essentially not filtering ANY of the oil. Obviously too coarse of a filter might not capture the particulates it should be catching. Basically without that very specific info you risk severely damaging your engine. You can do whatever you want but it seems like it would be penny wise, pound foolish to try to save $15 on a filter and damage a several thousand dollar engine. I’ll just keep spending the $26 on the Mahindra ones.

Thanks TractorNH, and I do agree with you. It is an unknown, as to the Mahindra specs in their engine oil filter. The new, shorter filter has Mahle on it also, so I called Mahle USA. They said they can't give out any info for the filter because of copyrights with Mahindra. He said he couldn't even find specs on it, top secret I guess. Proprietary like you said. Did you read the NAPA Gold specs info? I joined another forum, all about oil and oil filters. I ran a post about this topic. Many replied and gave me reasons it would be OK to use. The NAPA filter 1324 is used on Kioti diesels and Branson diesels. This doesn't mean the 1324 filter is good to use on a Mahindra 2555 diesel, but how much difference could there be between these engines when it comes to the engine oil system? When I called the Texas Mahindra facility, I talked with the tech department and I asked about the steering seal leak at the PSU and about the engine oil filter crossover. He said there wasn't anything out there that crossed over because Mahindra had copyrights to the filters. He also said, I could find one if I looked. That guy no longer works there.
