What is a “spare the air day”?

In July of 2008, the Air District passed Regulation 6, Rule 3: Wood-Burning Devices to reduce fine particulate matter air pollution from wood smoke.

Don't Burn Wood during Winter Spare the Air Alerts

Under this regulation, it is illegal to burn wood, firelogs, pellets, or other solid fuels in your fireplace, woodstove, outdoor fire pit, or other wood-burning device on days for which the Air District issues a Winter Spare the Air Alert

Ok thanks, interesting. I had not heard of that one.

What surprised me is Washington State has a similar ordinances...

During a Stage 1 Burn Ban

No burning is allowed in fireplaces or uncertified wood stoves.

All outdoor burning is prohibited, even in areas where outdoor burning is not permanently banned. This includes recreational fires as well as the use of backyard fire kettles, chimeneas or fire pits.
No visible smoke is allowed from any wood stove or fireplace, certified or not, beyond a 20-minute start-up period.

During a Stage 2 Burn Ban

No burning is allowed in ANY wood-burning fireplaces, wood stoves or fireplace inserts (certified or uncertified)

During a Stage 2 ban, residents may use natural gas and propane appliances

As luck would have it, I have an ample supply of guns and ammo. So I'll be protected, warm and fed. :D:licking:

Not luck at all, Lynn ... just smart planning. Most of our (city dwelling) friends have noted at one time or another that our place is to be the designated meeting point for any SHTF scenarios.

I have often imagined starting a new life but in the meantime I live vicariously through Cat Fever...

Yup, I think most of us here have been watching with admiration and thinking, "Man ... wouldn't that be nice." I certainly have.

Nothing like the satisfaction of a well executed plan coming together...

The bonus is we can all share through pictures from start to finish...

Lots of posters here share their builds which inspires others... it also offers sound advice on best practices...

I never would have bought my BX23 Kubota without TBN... the truth is I didn't know such a beast existed... there aren't any dealers around here.

I already had money down on my tractor before I found this site. Had I found this site first my tires would have been loaded and I would have gone with the 73HP tractor instead of the 66HP. Just a few things I think I could have worked into the deal if I were better educated.

I always liked that state lived there in the mid seventies and early eighties. I was over in the south west part.
One of my sisters and a couple of her daughters and thier husbands moved up to Jerome a couple of years ago,
from Utah.

The cost to run a gas fireplace is why I want a wood burner. Wood is cheap to get and good exercise.

Got in a little of that exercise today. I like to cut rounds until I'm out of gas, then fill up the tank in the log splitter, and run it until it's out of gas. This works out to be a perfect load for the Mule.
