When the Zombie Apocalypse happens, those with gas fireplaces are gonna get cold.
I'll be toasty warm. :laughing::dance1:
We don't even have people stealing firewood anymore like when I posted a couple of years ago... back when Dad was alive all he had to do was put out the word a oak had toppled and friends would show up with their pickups and saws and leave nothing behind and be glad for the offer...
I use wood in Olympia when it is not a spare the air day... but mine is Doug Fir or Cedar and I think of all the Oak back in Oakland...
Gas keeps getting more expensive... just about a $1.70 a therm...
Just for fun I turned on the gas furnace and gas Jotul Bedroom Stove in the new house... started at 50 degees and took the house to 68 and the bedroom actually hit 71... Jotul is on or off with no thermostat...
Cost of gas for that one day $15.... so $450 for a 30 day cycle...
No previous experience with a Jotul Gas stoves... I have to say it makes a VERY nice fire and the stove is very well built and throws off a lot of heat...
The next day I fired up the Buck Stove Insert.. I guess you can call it an insert even if it was built for the insert since day one.
Also throws off a lot of heat, nice fire... the blower kicks on and throws out a lot of heat but is noticeable... it is a big insert.
I decided to give it a try after reading posts in this thread... when I engage the CAT the temp climbs to over 1000 degrees.
Much to learn as with an Estate Sale as-is purchase I have to figure out a lot on my own.
