It seems to me that those folks who are moving here bring their ideas that made California undesirable and try to make their new home into the same thing.

Some very much so and others definitely not... the retired RN that just moved had her car keyed with F Trump because she had a Trump bumper sticker on her car... she is 68 and said supporting the President gives license to damage her car... where as she never thought much of Obama but never in a million years would she vandalize anyone for having a Obama/Biden sticker.

She was just back to tie up some lose ends and said she has already made new friends and only wished she could have moved sooner...

The SF news tonight was doing a story about MAGA hats... overwhelming people in San Francisco said anyone wearing that hat is asking for trouble or too stupid to know better... all said with a straight face. The irony is we proport to be open to diversity and tolerance but some of the most closed minded intolerant people I have every met live in the Bay Area... go figure? People wearing the hat are getting put in the hospital...

The only person I have ever seen wearing a MAGA hat here was 82 when he passed away... people would make comments but my retired military friend was very hard of hearing and those making comments would give up...

Our jails and prisons are filled with the mentally ill and drug addicted, which incidentally are not adequately equipped to handle these types of prisoners. There was a time when the mentally ill were committed to an institution which WAS equipped to handle them; however, what with the combination of the exorbitant outlays of cash required, and the liberal do gooders, these folks were given drugs and turned out on the streets to fend for themselves. The problem that was created has not been adequately addressed; in fact some of the big cities policies have made it worse. I don't know what the answer is, but it's not what we're doing now.
The video mentions a program in Providence Rhode Island. This program gives people drugs that allows them to deal with thier addiction....substitute narcotics like methadone.
These addicts are carefully monitored and the success rate is much better then incarceration.

It sounded like it was pretty expensive, or at least the upfront cost may be high. It could be cheaper then the alternative, doing nothing or incarcerating drug users or mentally ill people.
The root causes of these urban issues need to be considered. Clearly the tax burden cannot be passed to the homeowners and citizens... it's too big.

I think I have seen every Episode. Not sure what the attraction is, well maybe Lacy. And the Female Cop. The Male Cop is priceless too.

I just saw a Documentary on the homeless in New Jersey. Living in tent cities. One young man, works full time stocking shelves at a market, but can't afford proper housing. It's immoral. No shortage of money for non citizens, illegals, criminals but not this guy.

...This program gives people drugs that allows them to deal with thier [sic] addiction...

The only way to truly "deal" with an addiction is to face the facts and realize that any addiction is a weakness that must be overcome with mental strength...being told that addiction is a disease is laughable...

I once heard someone say quitting cigarettes is as easy as taking the **** thing out of your mouth...!

For sure it's not that easy and quitting any highly addictive substance is not easy but it can be done...

What bugs me, is society never wants to talk about why people are so unhappy, and need to medicate reality into oblivion. Not just the illegal drugs and alcohol, but all kinds of mood altering prescription drugs as well.

Gotta love the new neighbors....

At least the Californians are not moving to Washington... as often as they used to anyway. Should there be a wall around CA to keep them in there? :D

Actually there are many good people in CA, just a lot of the other. A LOT.

Not different than any other part of our country today. It's not just a big city thing or limited to a particular geographic location.

I believe our country is beyond the point of "no return" when it comes to drug addiction and along with it crime will only increase. I don't know what the answer is, if there is an answer.

Last year I was traveling to the east bay area 2 weeks a month, I stopped in a hole in the wall tavern for dinner just east of the bay, and I was the only patron when I arrived.
Fox News was on the TV, and just as I got there the beer tender strolled over and changed channels.

I struck up a conversation with him, and after a few moments asked him why he changed channels. That I liked Fox News.
He stated that when he leaves it on the TV, he can get some very belligerent people in his face, so he finds it easier to just change channels!

Can you name the Tavern?

There are rules and consequences if you break them... such as a local coffee shop refusing to service uniformed police officers because their customers find it offensive or wearing the wrong hat in public, having the wrong bumper sticker, etc... zero tolerance.

Each and every work day I spend about 20 minutes picking up overnight trash... fast food wrappers, coffee cups, liquor bottles... sometime condoms, underwear/clothes, etc... I have opened the back door to people naked having sex... to people defecating which happens often... washing down the entrances with disinfectant is a regular chore... never a need in my first 10 years...

There are no shelters for single men... the county mental hospital can hold a person for 72 hours...

I found a good litmus test of a person's character is litter... we have abundant outside trash cans... yet the trash seldom ever makes it into the can... one night camp leaves behind all manor of trash...

If you really want to get specific focus on public restrooms that are used for showers/bathing... to the point water running out the door or people coming into the lobby and taking a dump or urinating on the chairs...

A lot of my friends are law enforcement and they can't wait to get out of Dodge when pension time comes...

Yet, with all the problems population continues to grow in proportion to jobs.
