There is a lowes in a older/ kinda bad part of town here. They have an exterior electrical outlet on each side of the building. There's always a heroine head squatting next to the outlets with their phone plugged in.

I would be disconnecting those outlets if it were my store.

My Dad pulls up to Walmart in his Sprinter and runs a cord to their receptacle to run his water kettle for a shave and some instant coffee. I always wonder if he unplugs their softdrink machines.

Back in the days when corded leaf blowers and trimmers or what ever were used, stores my have needed external outlets but I do not see the reason today.

I have... after first installing stainless cover plates with tamper proof screws that have been overcome with force.

Interesting we were required at the time of new construction to provide several outdoor outlets... all have proved problematic due to the street population with consumer electronics..

I was called into work on a Sunday morning once because of the smell of cooking... upon investigation... I found a street person had set up camp on the roof on one of the hospital buildings and was using a hot plate cooking bacon and eggs near a HVAC intake... so the smell was carried through the area... the roof to meet building code had several outlets.

The only permanent solution was for me to trace the wires to j-boxes inside the building and disconnect the feed to the outside boxes...

This is about the time the street people started splicing into the street light power access plates at the street light pole base...

We used the ground level exterior ones for Health Fairs... and occasionally I used one to run a sewer cable machine...

The field of roof mounted ones is extensive... the idea it for those servicing rooftop equipment to have readily available power....

Adjacent to the property is a shopping center and for about 250' the rear of a row of shopping center building and the Hospital are separated by a narrow ally...

A plank was sued to span the 10' distance to get from the shopping center roof to the hospital roof.

The shopping center has had several run in with rooftop metal bandits... cutting out the copper and aluminum from package units to sell for scrap...

I have been more fortunate but have had the entire backflow main water supply assembly stolen for the $20 in scrap it would bring... an entire hospital without water from copper thieves... plus the geyser of water shooting past the roof line...

I got a call at 1 am saying the toilet on one floor did not work so the nurse took her patient to another an it did not work and then they found none of the toilets or faucets worked...

Unbelievable! If a society tolerates that kind of people running around, it pretty much gets everything it deserves. And once again, the few hard working people left, get to pay for it all.
