I won't disagree with the overall trend of obesisty, but I do question the exact number given the measure most often used to determine obesity (BMI) makes no distinction on whether that increased weight is due to increased muscle mass or higher levels of body fat. Personally I could see both contributing given the increased availability (and use) of weight training.

Muscle mass and weight training, have you done any people watching lately? I travel four states a couple times a month and the obesity I see sure as heck isn't from weight training, more like lazy people sitting around on an I phone potato chip training..

Yeah, I believe the number for youths being medically unqualified for the Armed Forces is something like 30%.

I've been across much of the US over the last several years (all but 5-ish of the 50 states within the last 12-ish years) with repeated visits to multiple states & cities for work and I've seen a lot of both.

I'll agree it's usually more due to fat more than muscle (or some combination thereof), but there's been enough muscle that I'm fairly certain that the statistics are being driven up by both extremes. Granted a lot of that observation includes dealing with a fair amount of current/former military members as well as a large numbers of individuals that have a wide variety of athletic pastimes or hands-on rural living. So while it's probably not the best representation of the US population as whole it's been enough that I tend to take any published obesity statistics with more than bit of skepticism.

However. if anything the one consistent trend I've seen across the entire country is that many of the extremes seem to becoming more extreme in just about every way imaginable.

Body builders, especially muscle mass builders, struggle to meet the military's weight standards. Even heavy bodied males that don't do weight training have problems. The military system compares ht, wt, neck, waist, wrist measurements.

Saw a documentary on fast food. Apparenty KFC, Dominos and Mac Donalds all are BIG in India and have far less healthy offerings over there. The "Cheese" on a Dominos Pizza is just some kind of OIL product. Huge too, is the push for "fizzy" drinks, COKE being a HUGE factor.

Kids just entering puberty with stage 1 diabetes. Oh what a wonderful world.

I know in Austria McDonalds had to do extensive advertising saying the beef is 100% Austrian Beef and similar... without the buy domestic campaign few locals would come through the door.

I can not blame them with the globalization of our food, who knows what you are eating.

On the thread subject I have been hearing more lately on getting the homeless drug users treatment. I wonder really how effective that is.
